OK, its that time, time to do the timing belt replacement on my '87 924S with 147k miles. What I would like to know is does anyone have a list of recommended parts to replace when doing this ? I would like to have as many of the required parts on hand before the first bolt is turned so this job can go as smooth as possible. I do not know when the last time any of this work was done, so I plan on changing everything related to the belt and water pump now so I know its right for a few years. I would also like an opinion on going to a cooler thermostat, since the car actually runs hot when it is cooler outside. In the summer it runs fine, unless in traffic then it inched up to the red. I think if I install a lower t-stat and sending unit for the fans it will run better all around.

So, please, I would like a list of recommended parts and possibly recommended brands for the strongest and worry free timing belt / water pump service possible.

THANKS in advance for any and all replies.

Check Zim's Autoteknik website for FOES kits. You need water pump, water pump hardware kit, timing tensioner stud, belts, rollers, balance shaft sleeves and seals, crank sleeve and seals, cam sleeve, seal, and cam gear bolt, and if you want to go the extra mile, have new balance shaft bearings pressed into the front shaft carriers.

Good time too for oil cooler seals, power steering pump seal, and radiator flow test.

Special tools include the Porsche belt tension tool, thin wrenches (Rennbay website), cheesehead bit for cam bolt, and flywheel lock.

Also replace power steering res (integrated fluid filter. . .meant to be tossed, but never tossed), and make sure factory power steering line update has been applied.
