So I needed to get a fuel line replaced, the return line from the WUR back to the fuel distributor. The asshole charged me $70 for 2 tiny fittings and a 20" piece of Nylon hose which prolly cost him $5-$10 at most to make.
So,.. I'm asking everyone... I will buy the kit and make hoses cheap for people if they help me track down the parts. I need to find the kit to assemble the hoses, the banjo eye fittings and the connectors to the injectors.
Porsche stopped making these hoses, but the parts are out there,.. I need to find them. |

Why didn't you just fix it yourself to start with? Guy probably spent at least a half hour in labor ($35-50) and parts... so $70 doesn't seem too bad. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

No, $40 given the fact I found the fittings for $4 a piece and $15 for the line is sufficient, NOT $70.
I won't be ever buying anything from that guy again. |

So you found the bits for about $23.00, not the $5.00 to $10.00 as you originally thought, which this fellow needs to mark up to not only realize a profit but also to justify having it in stock, and then you have his labor and expertise on top of that.
Given that he probably has a shop and a certain amount of overhead as well as other business expenses...insurance, merchant service fees for taking your credit/debit card, utilities, etc...$70.00 seems pretty fair for a NLA piece! _________________ '95 BMW 318i/5 ..."Pearl"

The fundamentals of supply and demand aside for the moment. Basic pricing concepts is that if you have an item that takes a manufacture $23 to build, the warehouse would sell it for twice the cost at $40-46. Then a store would buy it from the ware house and sell it for 3 times cost $60-70.
This guy made this hose in 2 mins and is charging me 3 times the cost to make it. $40-46 would be a fair price.
I didn't have a car in his shop, so hourly rates do not apply here. |

$40 for a cheap Nylon one is reasonable. But Pelican would have sold me a Teflon Braided steel one, which for that I would have no problem paying the $76
Btw,.. I am a NY'r i just happen to live in Cali atm.
Anyway,.. I think the horse is dead enough on this one,.. moving on... |

I knew I smelt some NY in there somewhere.
So, you found someone to make you a NLA part in 2 minutes? I'd say that's fair. Don't get me wrong, that's crazy money for a couple bucks in parts. I get it, I'm broke too, but you have to pick your battles with these things just like everything else in life. Now you know what the deal is with these cars. Get a junk set of lines for the fittings and make new lines out of them.
heres a thread to read.
