I have a 82 base 924 that I bought as a near basket case to bring back to running condition and it was well let's just say it wasn't well cared for....
I have a charging issue that I need some help with. The battery is not charging and I tested the alternator twice and it tested out perfect. I think it is the wiring. Does anyone have pictures of the wiring harness for the alternator? I brought the car with the wires hanging and thought that I had it hooked up right but it still doesn't charge. If not does anyone have a idea how to hook up for a single wire system if that is possible? |

| there is a 3 pin multiplug near the distributor on the firewall. it has a thick wire that goes to the starter solenoid toactivate it.it has also 2 thin wires, one is the alternator exciter (it is needed for the alternator to charge), other goes to the solenoid also and provides extra current to the ign coil when cranking. then there is a thick wire that goes from de + terminal of the alternator to the + post of the starter and then to the + of the battery. i dont know the pin numbers and colours-thicknesses but you have them on the schematics, just google it. dont forget to use heat resistant shielding on the wires or they will melt with exhaust heat |

The very first thing to check is the low battery light on the multi-gauge in the main dash cluster. When you put the key in, prior to starting, the battery light should light up and glow red. If it doesn't, then the altnerator circuit will not charge.
It could just be a burned out bulb (has happened to me more than once), or it could be a bad connection at the multi-pin connector, or it could be a bad socket in the gauge (has happened to me once).
Check that out first.
The other problem could be a bad or damaged primary starter / alternator harness. On the NAs, it passes underneath the exhaust manifold, which subjects the wiring to a lot of heat. This particular harness is notorious for melting, breaking, or otherwise disintegrating. If you haven't already, you should rebuild this harness and put it in a firebraid sleeve to better protect it from heat.

Is the alternator to motor ground wire installed and if so is it in good shape? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Hi Paul-
Yes I did verify that the ground wire is installed and in good shape. |
