Help!
How the **** do you remove the cam belt pulley from the cam shaft?
I tried trying to lock it with an extension bar from a socket set but reached a point where I was using so much force I was worried I'd damage the top of the cylinder head.
Anybody got any magic tricks or suggestions?

Go back to what you were doing, use a bit of wood or rubber hose to protect the head, then put a cheater pipe on your wrench. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Thanks Rasta!
Gonna have to wait to try that. I have taken the cam shaft off the head and the head off the motor. I'll take the pulley off once the engine is reassembled to change the front camshaft oil seal.

Unless you have a major oil leak out the front, this seal is not worth replacing. Your 1/2" impact wrench might not be enough. A 3/4" impact wrench would do it, but, tightening up the bolt afterwards might be interesting. This is a similar situation with the big crank bolt below. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Thanks, Grenadiers.
I don't run to compressed air system yet.
I'm going to try Rasta`s suggestion once all back together. And with a 32 y.o. engine with no history I'd rather replace the seal now and know how old it is rather than the old one go a few clicks after a head rebuild.
Thanks though, I really am running at the limit of my experience with this project (As you can see from my latest post), so all advice is most welcome.

If you are trying to remove the bolt from the cam gear and its frozen, use heat. It's the only way to guarantee removal without breaking anything. Put a propane torch on the head of the bolt until it glows and then do what you were doing before with the extension to lock it from moving and a socket on a breaker bar to crack it loose. If you try too much force with cheater bars etc. you have the chance of snapping the head off the bolt. Then, you're F'ed. Proper F'ed.
My dos centavos.

Strongly disagree. Oil + Rubber = Bad. Laziness will bite. _________________ Toofah King Bad
