The setting: 1979 924 that has been sitting under a cover for nine (9) years.
Was last started about six years ago and run long enough to kick in the cooling fans.

Now that the wife has decided to finally give the car to the boy, it's on me to help sort things out.

No spark. 1.58-2.44 Volts at the coil. Battery voltage @ terminal 15 of the control unit. The Haynes manual says there should be three wires going to the Hall sender, but there are only two.
I'll have to dig out my factory manuals soon.
The fuse panel looked rather iffy, so we picked up a clean used one from a yard a few days ago. It's installed with new fuses.

Anything sound familiar? It's ten years since I had a shop and the memory just ain't what it used to be.

How are the grounds? There's two blooms of them under the dash behind the fuse panel, they like to corrode and cause WTF stuff. Basically follow any/all brown wires to ensure they are cleaned and protected with vaseline or dielectric grease.

Then there are the grounds in the engine bay, not too mention the main battery terminals which should be tight/clean yada yada.

There's also the ground for the coil itself which is important for obvious reasons

There's also a ground from the alternator to the engine block, those like to go bad.

Once you confirm grounds, then check the power side. Make sure the main power to the starter and alternator are in good shape. The 4 or 5 power wires that lead into the fuse panel, etc.

That should keep you busy for a little while and eliminate a bunch of stuff. Better yet, have the boy do it. He'll need to know how if he's going to be driving the car and you certainly don't want to be called in the middle of the night to do this for him on the side of the side road, in the dark and while its raining (it always is, it seems, heh)

Good luck either way and let us know how it goes.
