I recently purchased my first porsche. Well, not purchased, but traded for. A 1977 (late vin) Porsche 924. Fully stock, tan leather interior, doesnt run. Why would someone buy a car that runs? So I've started working on it. We've diagnosed that it either needs
A. fuel pump
B. fuel distributor
C. fuel filter
D. fuel lines blown out
E. all of above
day I picked it up (dont worry, the window wasn't open the entire time it sat)
interior and sun roof popped out
pop ups dont work, but I put them up
Entire car!
Stoked to be working on something so classy. Previous car was a mk1 rabbit, so I have some experience with a form of CIS |

Welcome!!!
Can't wait to see her all fixed up and running again.
Sounds like it will be a handful though.
Good luck!

Hopefully it wont be. Sounds like the pump is working. The injectors arent getting enough pressure, they need like 65PSI or something and they're getting 25 psi. |

That IS a nice original early car, these are getting scarcer to find in this condition.
You will probably need to address all of the above, plus the AAV and WUR and a full drain of the fuel system. I had to do all of that on the Martini after it had been stored for 15 years and it still won't run right!
Just a question of systematic perseverance. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

I'll check all that as well. I knew I was going to have to do the full drain. I'm thinking of pulling the fuel cell and putting in something aftermarket because this one has some rust it looks like, judging from the filler neck. But either way, this will all start happening after the snow melts and its possible to work on it! |

The tanks on the 924/944 also had a bad habit of cracking too. Something to be aware of. I've considered doing an aftermarket cell on my car as well but mine wasn't rusted to hell and back when I saw it. But the smell of old fuel? *gag* it's horrible.
It's nice to see someone giving an early car some love. You almost never see them around anymore. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

True.
If you manage to get a list of parts you need let me know and I can rummage around in my parts bin. I have a giant bin full of CIS parts. I can see if I can find anything that would fit your car as my car is a '77 but has no CIS on it anymore.
You're not far from me (I'm in central oregon) so it'd be easy to send some parts your way. My wife would probably be glad I have less clutter to, so it's win win. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

See if you can snag the part # off the fuel distributor. I know I have at least one around, I don't recall the condition, but I'll look and we can see if it lines up. The gents on this forum were nice enough to help me get my car running with a CIS setup, so I'm happy to return the favor. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

You should be aware that the early (no in tank pump) fuel tank is different to the later ones, mine had a rusty fuel neck, just take that out and clean it. Fuel filters should be an off the shelf replacement, probably pay to change it a couple of times at first until the tank is free of rubbish.
Another problem area is the fuel accumulator(s), the early models have 2 and I believe the fuel distributor is different for these. These accumulators rust out and don't hold pressure in the system causing starting problems.
Another small filter is fitted on early cars between the tank and fuel pump inlet, this gets clogged with stirred up rubbish and are NLA, take it out and reverse flush it with an air line.
I would add that my comments apply to Euro spec cars, but I believe US Specs are similar. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

You have impeccable taste in interiors. Good luck with the car.
(gratuitous interior shot of my car below.)
