Going down the road the hood likes to pop open, I suspect its the lower hood latch assembly that possibly is worn out (35 years I could see that)...

The question is, do I buy a new one?

or:: Do I look at options? I like a clean look and found these:

Perhaps with enough work I could get this to work.

$60 oem is pretty reasonable. Those Mustang ones are horrifying.

I have thought of that - it is something that adds one more thing and I do love the clean look... struggling with the idea!

horrifying as in added items to go wrong? This has been my concern. I want something that works as an absolute for securing the hood down. I don't want to be having the "flew open" conversation.

two latches like the Mustang aftermarket is always more solid. Volvos use that method a lot and it is secure. Downside is you double your possible failure points when using two latches that would be hard to access if one or both failed.

Well I ordered new upper and lower hood latches; lets see if that does it for now. Has anyone else had this equipment wear down on them? Everything on these cars is 35+ years old!
