Help!
How the **** do you remove the cam belt pulley from the cam shaft?
I tried trying to lock it with an extension bar from a socket set but reached a point where I was using so much force I was worried I'd damage the top of the cylinder head.
Anybody got any magic tricks or suggestions?
Thanks

With the sprocket flexed outward, and the bolt loosely inserted, rap the head of the bolt with the BFH. _________________ Race car: my favourite palindrome.

Get a butane or propane torch and heat the bolt up until it is cherry read (or there abouts). Be careful not to melt the seal, but I take it you are replacing that anyways. The heat will cause the bolt to expand a little, but it may help to free any bits that are corroded within the threads.
After that, get a short extension bar and hook it up to your socket. Then get a a shop hammer and give it a few good smacks (the extension that is). It will turn the cam, but it will be jerking the bolt loose as well. Be aware that it may take a few good smacks. If it takes too long, reheat the bolt and go back at it.
Have patience so that you don't brake anything. Ask me how I know....
I would disconnect the negative lead on the battery so that she does not try to start as the cam goes around...

Perhaps I've misinterpreted and the bolt is still in there?
If so, by all means, whack it once with a good solid blow of the BFH.
Also works on those pesky wheel bolts. _________________ Race car: my favourite palindrome.

1) remove the cam
2) Stick a breaker or pry bar into one of the holes in the pulley.
3) Stand on the bar
4) Put a wrench on the pulley bolt
5) Bounce on one or both until the bolt comes loose... |
