Since I have the transmission/transaxle all torn up, I figure I might as well go through the trouble of finally putting a 5-speed in the '77. I am looking for an Audi N/A 5-speed and shift rod with linkage. Anyone have one they are willing to part with?
In addition, I have a great, albeit slightly damp, 4-speed if you are looking for one _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

To add to the search, since finding a good 5-speed is a bit of a challenge, I would also consider a 4-speed with a pinion to ring ratio of 9:31.
They made two different versions apparently, and I have the 9:35 ratio one, which means 3300 rpm @ 60 mph, as compared to 2800 rpm with the 9:31 one. I'm not sure how you can tell by looking at the transmission: any ideas? Figuring since the '77 1/2 manual shows both, maybe the championship edition had the special 4-speed? _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

The 9:31 is from a very early car. 1976-1977.5. You can identify them from the code on the top of the bellhousing. The early code is YR for 9:31 (3.44)
XT is the late 4 spd with the 9:35 (3.8 _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!

Too bad you aren't out here in SoCal. 924s have hit the bottom of the barrel, and the the local self-service salvage yards usually have 3-5 each when I go looking. Transmissions are $125.
You can even get 944 transmissions for the same price.
I haven't had the time to finish the replacement engine for my 924S in years, and I've been waiting and watching for an 160hp 944 engine. There are quite of few early 944 cars in the yard, and I can get a complete engine for about $100 on a half-off weekend sale. |
