Up here in rainy vancouver, there aren't that many nice days between the months of october and may. Because of this, since the day I got my license (october 5th) I hadn't had the chance to do anything with my 924 other than commute, and that was usually in the rain. This semi depression was worsened by the fact that my car attracted some intense criticism from the fellas at school. Fellas with beamers and audis that were bought by their parents, giving them no appreciation for how hard I had worked to be able to afford my beloved 924 (6am every week day throughout my entire summer holiday). My car was egged on a weekly basis, wrapped with saran wrap, etc...
Last sunday changed things for me: it was a beautiful sunny day, the roads were dry and the air was warm (for february). I decided to call up a good friend and fellow car lover to go for a cruise along the local twisty seaside road. Me in the 924 and him in his '91 civic hb. At first I was frustrated, there was more traffic than I had expected on the skinny two lane road, and I was stuck behind a white F150 going 50kph for a good 15 minutes. I got fed up so we pulled into the parking lot for the local walking park. Half an hour and a nice stroll later we got ourselves back on the road. This time there was no traffic and I had the open road in front of me. Needless to say, my foot hit the floor
My foot was either hard on the gas or hard on the brake, bringing her up to 5k rpm before every shift and hitting 80kph on the way out of every corner. On my way into the corners I could enjoy the feeling of perfectly executed heel toe downshifts, the exhaust popping and crackling as the engine decelerated only to receive another burst of wide open throttle. My buddy and his civic were nowhere to be seen
The windows were open, the wind was in my hair and I was grinning ear to ear like a little boy. That sunday was the day I truly came to realize the beauty of the 924. It's light and nimble and although it won't beat challenging audi and bmw sedans in a straight line, i'm confident I could take them to a twisty road and laugh as they try to keep up
In just one week i've fallen head over heels for the 924, and I know now that I will never sell my precious car. I plan to keep it until the day I die
I feel like this is a common feeling among 924 owners
A couple pics from the day:
Darn cars in my way

I get up earlier on some sundays than workdays just so I don't have to deal with this.

Nice. I had a glory day like that when I had my old 931. Coming home from a gf's place in W. Van at about 6am on a Sunday morning. Took the Stanley Park exit from the Lions Gate Bridge and ripped through the west half of the park at warp speed. Nobody there. No kids,no tourists,no animals, nothing. A sureal type of moment.Delicious. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

I can imagine! I have to do that sometime, it sounds pretty incredible. I'm just imagining ripping through there with nobody around, maybe tomorrow if the sun stays long enough

I do that occasionally, I also get up early on weekdays and go for a quick drive before heading to school. I have a greater motivation for the car than I do for school |

I like your car. Unusual color and it looks good with the strips. _________________ 81 924 N/A

Thanks, the color has actually grown on me quite a lot since I bought the car and I've decided to keep it and just redo the clearcoat to remove the orange peel |

That was suposed to be stripes not strips. The perils of touch screen keyboards. _________________ 81 924 N/A
