|

Finally have gotten a replacement for the NLA brass bushings for the universal joint on the G31 and 016Y/Z (snailshell) shift rod. Have not personally tried these yet in any of my cars, but these should be a nice compromise between the too-soft and elongated OEM plastic bushings, and the harsh stiffness of the brass bushings. Suitable for all snailshell equipped cars.
$29 per pair, plus shipping. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Are these tight fit against the pin? I bought a set (from some other place) couple of years ago but never used them since they were much sloppier than the worn originaks that were already there. On my 931 I tried the bronze ones, and i cant recoment those at all, noise is the word. But at least the shifter pattern is really tight together with the short shifter
This could be a great product if the fit is good !! _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Agreed, the brass ones do tend to cause vibrations in certain RPM ranges, less than ideal for a street car.
I have spare shift rod setup on the bench that is destined for the D-Prod tribute car, I'll see about fitting these later this week. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Installed. No slop. And when I say no slop, I mean, there is absolutely no give whatsoever. In the photos, the shift rod is being held in a vice with the coupler end suspended. With the old bushings, the coupler would flop all over the place. With these, you can see that it is held firmly in place, i.e. gravity is not causing the coupler end to flop down, it's sticking straight out because the fitment is so snug. There is no wiggle on the pin that goes through the two bushings, and there is zero gap along the "ears" of the bushings that ride against the square profile of the shift rod.
The bushings took some finessing and persuading to get into place, including the use of assembly lube and gentle tapping with a drift. I am quite anxious to try these out and compare them to the brass bushings that I have in the Club Sport and the 941. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Looks good!, I ordered some Porsche oem bushings and was dissapointed at the amount of slop and play etc...at the time brass or an alternative was not available so I showed them to a friend whom got a local machinist to whip some up on a favor-He was smart enough to produce two alternatives.
One: a solid brass bushing zero play, one side has three small triangular slots to clear the center of the shaft when sliding through when fitting.
Two: a hybrid brass/plastic version using the flange from the oem bushings.
I have not fitted these yet so I'm not sure how they will run.
