Hi all. So the climate controls in my '81 924 turbo are confusing to me. I can hear the idle change when I turn on the A/C, but that is the only time I can get air to come out the vents. Because of this I'm assuming there's a separate fan for the heater, right? Not matter how I play with the control valves, A/C is the only thing that works. At max defrost with all the levers to the right there is a very small amount of heat coming out some of the windshield vents, but nothing else. I know the heater core is getting hot and I know the valves are working, so why doesn't my heat work? Am I a complete idiot or is there something wrong here? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated; I'm tired of driving around town in ski gear to stay warm! _________________ Dylan Stanford H |

The HVAC system in these cars, are like the tiny little bugs called nosee-ums. It's there, but that's about it. And finally, it bugs you!
Yes, the A/C has it's own blower, some don't work because of water leaking thru rusted out battery trays. Yours works!
The upper weak fan motor, is weak. Even at full blow, it's weak. Lift the hood and turn on your system to see if said weak motor is working. You can set up a fan relay and switch to bypass the system switch, which is junk. I did this on a previous car, installed switch in lower console by the ashtray.
Also, make sure all of the brittle plastic tubes that route the air to your vents are connected. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

How will I be able to tell if the weak motor is working by lifting the hood? And if not, does that generally mean I need a new blower? Isn't that a pain in the butt to install? _________________ Dylan Stanford H |

open your hood
look in the middle at the far end in front of your windsheild and next to your battery.
The is a black platic cover that looks like the top of darth vader's helmet.
This piece is held in place by 3 small push in pins, simply remove those and you will be able to remove the unit and clearly see your heater fan blades.
If you are lazy you can looks trough the grill of the unit with a torch lamp and see if the blades are spinning.
If it doesn't work at all then you need to remove the dash to remove the heater core. I've done it and it is not as difficult as it may sound _________________ 1979 924 NA |
