Hello all. So I finally started opening up a spare NA engine I have. The following info is what I have found.
Camshaft has a part number of SA165-10 E-3153. The engraving looks like it was done by hand, and has no other identifying marks. Some of the lobes look very scored, but will replaced with a performance cam.
Lifters: Through the side hole (assuming valve adjusting hole?), it looks like a very nice anodized blue color. Dont think thats stock... Is it? Does it matter?
Drake engineering adjustable cam sprocket (old school, now defunct VW specialist from California)
Much port work done to the intake side of the head, exhaust side looks stock, but had an old, rusty header on it too, and it already has an aluminum flywheel that looks like its in great shape.
My caliper and older eyeballs read the following:
Bore: 87.06mm
Head gasket: 1.85 mm thick, no identifying marks
Pistons: upper crown 4.55 mm below deck, valve reliefs 11.10 mm below deck.
Intake valve 39.72 dia
Exhaust valve 33.15 dia
I think much of this is pretty normal stuff, except for the bore (?) and some of the bolt ons. This engine has been "into" before, just not sure how much, etc. Turns freely, cylinders walls look nice, but need honing, etc. Pistons appear stock, with huge valve reliefs.
According to the manual and ID markings, its the "XG" code engine, which was 110hp in stock form. Is this a decent starting point, or does it matter what block I start with for a higher performing engine like Ideola's stroker mentioned elsewhere? (some manufacturers have a preferential starting point for engines, ie Dodge daytona 2.2's, etc). I want to turn this engine into a possible stroker with higher compression. Thoughts or input?
Thanks!
