Folks, anybody know how to tell a 937 camshaft from a 931 camshaft?

Mine has a part number on it that doesn't exist in 924PET and I can't find on google....

Puzzled....

http://www.924.org/parts/parts.htm

Is your part number there?

I don't know that anyone actually knows the specs of the 937 camshaft. I suspect if you were willing to take yours to a shop with a cam measuring machine, that the group at large would love you for it

I'm not at home this week and foolishly I left the oily scrap of paper with the part number on my desk at home.

Wife will have thrown it by now and no way do I want her in the garage looking for parts (She'd throw all the dirty, oily looking bits away too) so it'll have to wait till the werk-end.

The link says the 937 camshaft is the same as 924 and 931, but PET sez different.

I'm having the head looked at by a local shop, if they do a good job i'll ask them if they have a cam measuring machine... Ï need love!

Cams:

early 76-77.5 047.109.021
late 77.5 and newer incl turbo 046.109.021
GT & GTS 931.105.021.01
GTR 931.105.111.00

Somewhere I seem to remember I have some of the specs. I need to look for them.

These P/N's are all from the PET.

Back home and able to check the number...

It's 931.105.141.01, cast into the section before the distributor drive.

I have been told some parts are stamped with a casting number and then machined to make another part. So the number on my camshaft could be the Porsche internal part number for the billet used to make the camshafts for the 931, 937, GTS and GTR... Anybody any ideas?

I will have my local workshop measure the camshaft and publish the results.

Cheers!

According to Porsche FSM cams for all 931's and 937 are the same spec?

What's the difference between a 937 and 931 cam then? Isn't the 931 cam the same as an NA?

You would think so, but there is a different part number in the PET Catalogue.

Don't forget a cam can have the same opening points but have a different profile during the opening preiod.

I will have the local workshop measure the spec on my cam an publish it on the board.

Cheers!

The loose 931 1981 camshaft I have only has the markings 001970 on it and I know thats a genuine part from the engine.
