My dad recently bought another 924, this one being an '88 924S. Off the top of my head it needs a clutch, exhaust and a paint job. I want to save it but he wants to part it out. Based on the value of both cars and individual parts what do you guys think we should do? _________________

Now I realize that compared to the 924 and 944 this is an uncommon model, but do you think someone will notice the fact that its a beefier engine and last year of production for them to value it more? I know this sounds pessimistic, but I want to save this thing, I just need to convince the pops with some cold hard evidence here.
Thanks ahead of time,

Good luck parting it out. Lets see, phone dial wheels...worth nothing, 944 type engine...worth nothing, entry level vinyl and cloth seats...worth nothing, single pot brakes...worth nothing. Ok thats not true its all worth something but this car despite being rare does not have the most sought after parts on the market. Why? because they sourced parts from the very common 944. Part out a 951 and you have some very sought after parts.
I would put a clutch in it and drive it, or sell it. Fewer man hours than parting it out and selling all the junk off of it.
Tell "pops" he is not going to get rich parting such a car. _________________ 87 924s

Thanks for the advice. As for the clutch I think thats what has both of us a little standoffish, I've been looking around for tutorials and the much less detailed Haynes explanation and i'm wondering if its a hard as it sounds. A buddys shop manuals has the minimal time on it at 15 hours.
Thanks again,

The clutch isn't that bad, just buy the parts and plan a weekend's worth of work.

As for the paint? Check out rolling or spraying rustoleum, cheap and as long as you're not going for a specific color, well within the reach of the average person. _________________ Stefan

Thanks so much for the link you have no idea how relieved i am knowing i'll be following that procedure and not the Haynes one. As for paint, it's black. So you're right I won't be going for any factory colors because black is black. Thanks for the heads up on the brands. My buddy has a huge a shop and my dad gave him a huge compressor so needless to say I have free reign of the shop. I think I will put that opportunity to good use on this car. I'll try to post a picture of the thing soon so you all know what i'm talking about. _________________

The main thing to remember is that the 88 model is the best of the line(arguably!) with 160BHP in euro spec(not sure what they do to it in the US?) and not that many were made. Don't lose it! _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

I will buy the short block from you if you part it out, dependent on the condition of the bores.
As for the car, that thing is pretty beat. Great race car candidate (Spec944 - awesome series, very active in your area), but poor resto candidate IMO, as you can buy a near perfect one for a couple grand. _________________ Toofah King Bad
