I've had a lot of trouble with my alternator belt lately... It just won't stay tight! Every time I tighten it, it runs nicely for a little while (about 100 km) and than it pulls itself loose again. I've changed the belt several times because the old one broke while driving...
It all started after some electrical problems after i changed the starter, and I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the alternator?
I'm guessing the alternator has more friction than it's supposed to and therefore the belt won't stay taught?
Have anyone else had a similar problem or does anyone else have any idea what else could be wrong?? _________________ '84 924 NA

Faulty mounting hardware. I would pull the bolt that tightens the alt in place and replace it with new, and make sure everything is there (1 bolt, 1 flat washer, 1 spring washer, 1 nut). _________________ Toofah King Bad

Also the rubber bushings at the pivot often fall apart and must be replaced. _________________ Vaughan Scott
