Hola! Bienvenido a bordo!

How'bout that, I think you might be the first Mexican member here...

According to a really old post;

A.J. wrote:
Here's how it works:
-first 3 digits (924) model
-4th digit, model year (6,7,8 or 9)
-5th digit is the version (1=Europe,2=US,Cal.,Canada, 3=Japan)
-Last 5 digits are the serial number
-1977.5 models were given an extra "1" after the version number

Which, given your V.I.N., would indicate you have an early one.

EDIT: However, I just realised I've actually answered this question before!

Although to be fair, 924RACR was able to elucidate the answer from my slightly cryptic response

As the 944 FAQ Model Outline link points out - cars with the engine code of XH or XF will be early '77, whereas late '77 (aka '77.5) will have the XE or XG code.

Furthermore, as a general indicator, early '77 cars will have been built in late '76, and late '77 cars will have been built in early '77 - if you have the date sticker still showing.
