Just changed the rear hatch from the original 79 which had a hard plastic spoiler to one from a 944 which has a soft dense foam type. Has anyone painted this or treated it with anything?

Also worth noting that the frame on the later model hatch is much beefier and should be much less prone to separation, a common problem with early hatches.

Regards,
Bruce

The best treatment for all plastics and rubber is Aerospace Protectant 303

Alternatively just for the rear spoiler ............ smooth peanut butter, honestly!!

Mmmm, peanut butter. I've used 'Mother's Back to Black' with some fair results for plastic and rubber.

Also used mink oil and baby oil with good results on interior bits, etc. Used Rustoleum paint for plastic on my truck for the first time recently.

It looks pretty good now, like the paint soaked into the plastic, not just on the top, will need to see how it holds up though.

I've always used Armoral in my hard foam rear spoiler ('82 924 non turbo) - it needs to be sprayed and rubbed in maybe twice a year and it really restores the material without harsh chemicals. I'd avoid anything with an organic solvent - it might look good at the moment, but it could accelerate deterioration. Mine is 30 years old and looks good. - Peter

My spoiler has fine cracks in it from our intense sun.

Anyone know of a good way to smooth it out and make it look new again?
Filling/sanding?

For Mr. Bitey - I think our posts hit at the same time. Try Amoral - we don't have your sunshine in upstate NY, but I use it twice per year when it dries out. - Peter

At the moment the spoiler looks like it is peeling.

The list of black spoiler, trim, rubber treatments I have used is long and distinguished. I still stand by Aerospace 303 for an anti UV rejuvenator and protector. And a cheap option is smooth peanut butter.

Mink oil label says it's for weather proofing and conditioning leather and vinyl. Unsure what the long term result of use will be.

As of now, it has brought back my vinyl interior to a soft pliable surface, and it looks good too. I've also used it on dry rot tires with some what good results.

Baby oil was an old trick a guy I knew used on his old Buick. He went kind of nuts with it on the seats and you would slide around alot. I use it occasionally, seems to dry out faster than the mink oil.

I also use Armor all protectant after a couple days, good stuff for the final shine and protection.
