Is this coupler easily removed from the end of the shift rod? _________________ 1980 931 |

Half of the u-joint is part of the rod (so, no).
If you search for posts by Ideola or fiat22turbo you can find some detailed photos of the business end of the shift rod. _________________ Toofah King Bad

interesting. I see this being sold and I would like to replace mine if possible
(since I sort of filled mine with poly urethane) _________________ 1980 931

Well, I think Ideola sells bronze replacement bushes, and Automotion sells them in poly. You will want the secondary rod shift cup as well. . .Pelican?
Word to the wise. . .if you work on the linkage, you will save time dropping the gearbox. It doesn't take long at all, and like Gramma said, "the lazy man works twice as hard." _________________ Toofah King Bad

Press the rod out and you're left with the knuckle.
Torch the polyurethane out and replace with new bushings. Hint, check out 914 shifter bushings for stuff that might be more likely to be in stock.
The entire rod can be removed from under the car, and makes pressing the rod in/out much easier.

Yep, heat it up and it will slide out, or freeze it and pry it out.
(the trick to machining poly is to freeze it first) _________________ Stefan
