I have a '80 N/A 924 that has been parked for 6 or 7 years. I had it towed home and siphoned most of the old gas out of the tank last fall. It is in an unheated garage and I have not done much with it since. It had a near dead battery so I pulled it out and put it on a trickle charger.
Today it was 20 degrees warmer than normal in Minnesota so I installed the battery then though....well, if I do the "fuel pump" relay short, I dismount the new fuel filter and pump the last bits of lousey gas out of the fuel tank before it hits the fuel distributor. It seemed like a good idea. Those Germans that worked under the dash must have small hands....I finally got the splice in position, hooked up the battery, then switched on the fuel pump.....all I got was a buzz from a valve under the fuel distributor. No gas out of the line that feeds the fuel filter.
My question. Shouldn't I hear a buzz from the rear of the car where the full tank is? If the "tank" fuel pump is working at all, shouldn't I get some gas at the fuel filter?
tomorrow, I'm going to reinstall the fuel pump relay, ground the coil and disconnect the alternater and see if the key can make it work. _________________ 80 924 n/a

If you jump the fuel pump relay properly and turn the key you should hear the rear pumps running full time. _________________ 1979 NA 924

|

I'm pretty sure I jumped the relay correctly but it get to noise from the rear of the car....from anything. The #2 position on the aux. fuse board is a heavy fuse and it fine but I get no sound from either pump at the rear.
If the tank pump is dead, will the main fuel pump try and pressurize? If the main pump is dead, will the tank pump push anything forward?
Thanks, Rex _________________ 80 924 n/a

if th tank pump is dead then the car will probably be ok on a full tank, it is when you get below half problems can arise. then it might stop working. _________________ I KNEW white wall tyres were invented by Americans .....just not at Boeing.... to be fitted on the 737..... |
