With the spare time I have at the moment not being able to work or work on the car i have got some time to share some pics of what i have been doing this year and last. (minor car accident fortunately no Porsche hurt)

BGR924002 Blue Gum Racing

This is a mock up of what I am aiming for

This is the test fit of A9X flares. I had already thought of them as the solution but Andrew from NZ's car confirmed it looks good!

This is my solution to installing a bias bar to the car.
And i did reinforce the black plate that mounts it to the fire wall!

The inside is nowhere near complete. Roll cage yet to be built.
I took 10 10litre buckets of body deadening out of the car!

I didn't like the factory harness 1 it had too many wires and weighed more than it needed to. 2 the fuse box was too hard to service.

Because it will be a track car never to be on the public roads again I have opted for the Davies Craig EWP.
Because ofconstent water flow and no drag on the engine.
I have used them before on a street 924 and noticed the difference but the early ones had seal fail problems so i don't recomend a series one unit for the street.

I hand bent this rear window 3mm polycarb. 6 hours with a heat gun!
And no it isn't as good as the pic looks but I am very happy with it.

And BGR924001 Gone in an accident at Mt Panorama Bathurst. It got hit mid corner and I hit the wall at about 100km/h and the left guard tip was where the badge should have been!
but here is a pic anyway.

My car is going to have a twin!!

Looks like a great project. It's amazing how little work is involved in fitting those flares, isn't it?

Hi Alan

A9X type, they look similar to the DP style and are very easy to source
here.

Andrews car will have a twin for sure!

I cannot wait to work on it again.

Hi Daniel

this one has never raced but I am looking at starting in the first round of the 2012 season. A few trips to Wakefield and the Creek before
I am looking at running it in Production Sports.

I would love to run in Improved Production but when I approched them in 2010 they said my car wouln't be accepted because it is a sports car that was never homologated for touring car racing.

I compared the 924 to the RX7 to argue to get the car in.
Allan Moffet homologated the RX7 by cutting the rear seat down! so they can run RX7's.

By the way if ANYONE HAS ANY PROOF THAT THE 924 EVER RAN AS A TOURING CAR PLEASE FORWARD ME THE DETAILS.......(it could be fun IP U2L)

Would love to catch up some time and compare notes. I have been playing with 924's since 1998 and I formally worked at Porsche Willoughby in the parts dept. So I have got a few insiders to search for the really hard parts.

Regards
Shane

Might be tough to make that car competitive in Prod Sports. Im having enough trouble in Group S, which is under 2L. You would be in under 2.5 correct?
With regards to CAMS and U2L, I won my battle by going back to the FAI classification of the car. Further more the rules dont specifically say the car has to be FIA homologated. It would make to following argument:
Group N has accepted 2.2L 911's and Alfa Alfetta's All similliar size cars with a 2+2 arangment
IPU2L has accepted Alfetta's, RX7's (which were direct competition to 924's in there day), the nissan Z range, 200sx silvia ect ect.
924's are not strictly speaking sports cars, they have 4 seats and have a hatch style body. They are more sports tourers a definition that can be applied to more than half of the IP grid.

Stick with, a 924 would be a serious weapon in IP. Ill help you out with writing letters or talking to the right people. Did you approach the IP club or CAMS directly?

What part of Sydney you in?

Daniel

hi Daniel,

My car should at the moment fall between 7.7 kg/kW - 8.5kg/kW
It makes a little more than standard power...... and I have taken close to 200kg out of the car once you factor the cage to go in.

Production Sports Classes.
D.2 CLASS DEFINITION
(i) Classes for the Championship shall be five Power to Weight Ratio (PWR) Classes, namely A, B, C, D and E. The purpose of the PWR classes is to group together cars of broadly similar performance.
A For cars under 6.3 kg/kW
B For cars 6.31 to 8.1 kg/kW
C For cars over 8.1kg/kW
D For 2F cars and Group S cars with engine capacity greater than 2500cc
E For 2F cars and Group S cars with engine capacity less than or equal to 2500cc and Porsche 944 challenge cars complying with CAMS Bulletin 05/073,
(ii) PWR is defined in Section D.8 of these regulations.

I would like to run in IPU2L and I found that the 924 was homoglated as grp 3 and grp b so it was classified by FIA as a Grand Touring Car.

very interesting.

I could also argue the VW common parts suspension ,motor and Audi gearbox all from eligble cars.

I am in the Hills district. 15 mins from the creek. You?

regards
Shane

Just some more photos to help motivate everyone.

I will make it to the outside I promise.

Well I guess you could eat off it if it was up the other way.

Before the removal. also before the caliper swap!

After the removal of the 1/4 inch thick body deading and white paint applied.

Shane.

CAMS are nothing but a pack of arse holes. I had the same issue with my gearbox, as the Cut off for Grp S is Dec 31 1977 they turned around and said that the 5 speed box (introudced August 77) was really intended for the latter models! Any way a few temper tantrums latter (from me and them) and they gave in. Keep pushing the IPU2L route, this is where the car belongs.

Im in Auburn and I will be doing race prep on Sunday morning for a HSRCA meet on lat September at wakefield, swing buy if you can.

Cheers
Daniel

First post!

Love these pics, I`m also building a 924 I`m hoping to run in IP under 2ltr. Perhaps we should all get together and make a case? There are some Targa classes down here in Tassie I can run in but would much prefer to build a proper IP car that I can take to the mainland on occasion.

good spot!

I will check it this morning......

It wasn't obvious at the time so it must be close.

An elbow and redirecting will fix if it is.

Thanks

Shane.
