First off, I need to say a big 'Thank You!' to Dave (Grenadiers) for years of helping me with parts from his decommissioned fleet. Without him, my pockets would be much emptier and my toofahs would not be as wonderful!

Anyways, why this thread is titled as going Italian is because I installed an Ansa rear muffler system onto the car. My current muffler had become so unbearable to listen to that I had to put something else on. The main reason the muffler crapped out can be blamed on me, since I had the resonator removed.
So, I was looking at buying a new system when I realized, "hey, maybe I could get that Ansa exhaust off of that old Martini-Rossi that Dave has!" We didn't really know what condition it was in, but we wanted to find out. After maybe an hour of struggling to remove the system, it finally came out. While quite rusty, it was very solid. My father was along on this part, but he had to leave the next day to go back to work. Usually, I need his assistance on these sorts of projects, but I wanted to get that nasty exhaust off of there before I had to drive it to work again.
First things first, I had to get the old muffler off of my car. While not a challenge like the Ansa exhaust, I did run into one conundrum; I previously welded the Bosal center muffler to the rear exhaust system. SO, I had to take both the Ansa and the Old muffler to a muffler shop to get the bosal piece cut off, and a slip-joint made. Surprisingly, it only cost $10.
To shorten this story, I sandblasted the exhaust, painted it with hi-temp grill paint, and installed it.
It's a million times better than the old exhaust! No more rattles, no more tinny exhaust note, no more excessive noise driving at 70 mph! Surprisingly, this new system actually quiets down at 70 when compared to 60. My father, being the Ferrari fan of the family, says the toofah looks and sounds like an 'Italian automobile' now. In short, I am very satisfied!

Cool! Glad it worked out. Looks better on your car than when it was poking thru the weeds around here! dave.

It's amazing how far a little chrome polish and spray paint goes, eh?
