|
|
just finally got the transaxle out and pulled the fuel tank out of the 944, it looks worse then I originally expected so I am looking to replace it . I found two fuel tanks online one is metal an one is plastic both are form 1987 Porsche 944, as hard as it is to remove everything just to get to the gas tank a plastic tank that doesn't rust sounds appealing an worth a little bit extra
questions are :
1) will the 1987 Porsche 944 fuel tank fit fit in the 1984 Porsche 944 ? and does it make a difference if metal or plastic ?
2) what year 924 fuel tanks will fit in a 1984 Porsche 944? _________________ 1982 Porsche 924

Everything I have read says no- only a 924 tank fits a 924. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Paul I do search but if I don't find the exact answer I ask , and probably allot of time it could help know the proper terms or what to search for.
that post is great but leaves me to more question and back to the searching and asking is a 951 plastic tank the same as a 944 plastic tank and if going in the same 944 model just a different year is all that shown in the other post involved _________________ 1982 Porsche 924

The 944 section of Rennlist may have more info on 944s than here.

Many of us spend time over there too. The links will tell you the procedure is about the same as Rasta's write up. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

my rennlist account still is waiting the activation permission but I got a answer back form the guy selling the late model 1987 plastic tank for the Porsche 944 and figured it would be good to post it here for reference in case anyone else was ever searching for the answer, I found the answer helpfully for my situation hopefully other will to.
copy of his email response :
"Sorry this tank won't work in your car.The early 944 and 924 used a metal tank and they are different dimensions.Anything can be made to fit but you would have to change too many things. Thanks for looking "

It will fit, you'll just need to weld in the nuts for crossmember and straps. You'll also need a later gearbox with a center mounting hole. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Wait, are you looking for a tank for the 84 944 or the 82 924?
Seems like it was a little confusing, based on the replies, to which you're looking for.
I don't know that it makes a difference ultimately, but just wanted to be sure....
You could try car-part.com and call up some of the salvage yards. Most puncture the tanks, but you might get lucky. Also, Craigslist has an auto parts section, so maybe someone is parting one locally to you?
Good luck on the search. _________________ Stefan

I am looking for a fuel tank for a 1984 Porsche 944 form what I have found they are the same metal tanks that fit the 924 models apparently somewhere in the mid 1987 model Porsche changed to a plastic tank with a different cross member and shape (will not fit without some major work)
my 924 also has a pin hole but the patch works on it the 944 was way to far gone and I gotta replace I'm trying to keep them both going and have issues with both so maybe some people confused which one since I have asked a few questions lately _________________ 1982 Porsche 924
