I hijacked another thread with this question, and I got some replies and even a very friendly offer (thanks, PORSCHEV!), but before I go any further with this, I wanted to ask the peanut gallery...

I'm considering putting an oil cooler on my car. But I live in a place that not only gets VERY hot in the summer, but it get's VERY cold in the winter. So while an oil cooler might be just the thing in the summer, I'm worried that it will make warming it up in the winter a problem. With that in mind, what I was thinking was that I would get an oil cooler with a thermostat somehow attached so that it wouldn't turn on until the engine got good n' hot.

What do you think? Is this a good idea? Can it be done? Where can I get the parts for this little mod? Can anybody recommend a good product for this project?

thank's for your time, you all!

They make oil cooler thermostats that fit between the oil cooler and the engine.

Some of the OEM coolers have thermostats built-in, but a used cooler is a hell of a crap-shoot to take.

If you're that concerned about pressure spikes from cold oil causing the cooler or a line to pop, then perhaps an oil/block heater might not be bad idea?

BTW, the filter for our cars is pretty common to Ford/Chrysler V8's so adapters aren't hard to come across.
