Hey guys, I've been hanging around Rennlist for a while, trying to get into a position to pick up a 944. Well My Honda has only a couple of weeks or months before a bunch of little things turn into a $3-4000 fix, well I got the summer to just work and figured I'd take a look into a 924 to fix up as a DD.
After a day of adventure and some crappy brakes, I picked up a 1978 924
Here's the run down-
Exterior - Pretty good shape, paint job not too long ago, missing front valence, some chips here and there, headlight motors work but pass. light is out - not sure if bulb is dead or wiring issue, windshield has a decent crack right down the middle, targa apparently works fine, but it was raining a lot and I didn't want to ruin the interior anymore, doesn't leak though
Interior - Trashed... has the battery tray leak into pass. floor, seats are toast, carpet is ruined, console is broken up, but the dash has no cracks...hahaha
Engine - Seems pretty good, starts right up, nothing funky going on, needs a tune up, and I was surprised to see carbs when I popped the hood. I spent a while reading up on CIS in anticipation so that was pretty funny to see.
Transmission - Dogleg 4 speed, feels good, nothing wrong that I can tell.
Suspension - no pops or anything wack that I could tell.
Brakes - now here's the current biggest issue... made things interesting yesterday, you have to really pump the brakes before they start working, in addition the E-Brake is shot. I'm thinking they need to be bleed or is it worse like I probably have a cut/punctured line? Or Master Cyl. is buggered?
Well I probably overpaid at $850 considering the interior, but the body looks great, the engine seems solid, and the carbs are interesting as this is probably the only chance I'll ever have to own a car with them.
The car's currently sitting in my friend's garage so I can drive it back in calmer weather. Now my main issue is the brakes... I'm planning on picking it up tomorrow and some better working brakes would be nice. Any diagnosis on them? I'm pretty limited in what I can do, and I would probably be stuck going to a firestone or some crap...
The overall plan is to do some tune up work on the engine, refresh the cooling system, pick up a parts 944(early) and swap interior and some other little things, loot the suspension, brakes, and wheels, refresh the suspension/brakes and bolt it on...
Anyway enough of this, crappy phone pictures time! I'll replace them with better ones when I have the chance.

Cool! I like the carb setup. I have half a zillion n/a parts, most of them at our house in southern New Mexico, won't be back there till fall. But, if you need any interior stuff, carpet, knobs, gauges, dash stuff, e-brake cables or e-brake handle, put your list together. I have lots of stuff up here in wisconsin as well. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Most likely, the rear brake shoes need to be adjusted quite a bit.
Enjoy the car,

Ahh yes, that spoiler... It's some hard plastic aftermarket (?) not as long or flat as a 944's. Says Porsche on the back, but I'm not to sold on it...
I plan on adding the missing chrome back, add phone dials when I do the 5 lug/brake swap, and paint them gloss black with a polished lip. I once saw a picture of a 924 that was all black with tasteful chrome accents, reminded me of the early 911's. It was that or make a C GT body, but since I'll be using it as a daily and keeping it uncomplicated (no turbo) that would be 'in poor taste' ie: dumb.
Ahh I just know the trans confused anyone who tried to drive it, my only knowledge of dogleg gearboxes comes from Top Gear's German saloon episode
Thanks for the tips guys, sadly this might not work out... the title is a mess ... I hope it can be sorted but the current and previous owner (neighbors) need to sort somethings out... |

And as someone said if the rears are out of adjustment

In a very disappointing turn of events... I returned the car and got my money back.
The title just became a little too shady a little too fast, the guy selling it is screwing around too much and I'm not sure if he's playing dumb or just dumb. The owner before him is the real issue wanting nothing to do with it and it was never properly transfered to the guy I was buying from. Worse since I found out he had swapped the reg. and inspection from a parts car I'm thinking the title might be from that car too... never did find a VIN to match it to...
Well it's a really crappy first time buying a car ( well my first car doesn't count since I bought it from my cop neighbor...)
Needless to say I'm pretty pissed. Had the project all planned out and fell in love with the car. I'm thinking a black car with a Targa and carbs especially is not going to be easy to find.
I'm staying with the 924 and upgrade it idea, but so far I can't find a single one in the North Texas area...
So how tough is it getting to find a 924 these days? And anyone selling/going to sell/know someone selling in or around the North Texas area?
Just my luck I'd find the perfect car and idiots are screwing around with the title.... At this point that guy has figured out he's srewed, and will probably part it but probably just crush it... perfectly good car will get killed for nothing.

| That sucks! I really liked the carb set up. I can't give you any info on the likelihood of finding another one but keep looking. I think TX is one of the states that is notorious for "washing" salvage titles so full credit to you for bailing on it before it got really nasty. |
