Hi. Does anybody know the best way of replacing light-bulbs in the speedometer and oil-pressure instruments?

Thanks for help!

The main gauges just push out from the console. You should be able to put your hand up behind and push. If you lay on the floor with your head near the pedals and shine a torch up, you can see what you'll be pushing.

Everything plugs in, including the lights. Even the speedo cable. There is often enough slack in cables to remove the gauges first, and plugs next. The centre console gauge section is fairly easily removed, too. There are a few screws and you'll need to pull the knobs off the climate control levers.

The globe holders in the speedo and tacho and most everywhere else are twist types. Some of them will be tight and you will need something to grip it with to turn it. When you pull them out, the globe comes with the plug.

The standard globes are just 1W and more yellow than white. But you can get LED replacements which are whiter, brighter and cooler (literally). Just check them as you put them in because they have to be around the right way to work.

Wade.

Many thanks for your help!
I didn't realise that the main instruments are like in the 911 and you can just slide them out...

What abourt the oil-pressure instument. Do you have to remove the "side" panel of the sentre console? Can you get access via the side for the light bulbs, of must the instrument be removed from the console?

Thanks again!

Does the CGT carry the same center console as your sons 924 or
does it have the shorter floating one that can't be taken apart easy?

Approach the VDO gauges from the rear to replace the light bulbs.

Hi Harm - yes the center console looks just like the one in my son's car.

Then you should be able to lift/tilt the top half of the center
console up after you removed the two Philips head screws;
- Two in the top corners above the gauges.

The CGT uses the old heaterbox setup*, right?
Younger cars have a different setup that have
two more Philips head screws holding the top's bottom,
hidden behind the heaterbox control panel.

Take care of the electrics when you are in there
and make sure the gauges sit horizontal etc.:
I suposse you don't want to go through all that again soon

Regards, Harm.

*Old vs. New Heaterbox con trols:
- Old: Three slider buttons, no knob. A slide controls the air flow speed;
- New: Three slider buttons and a knob you turn to set the air flow speed.
