| Gidday all, i just found the brilliant article by Peter on brake caliper overhaul from a couple of years back and guess what , i'm in the middle of pulling my calipers apart and have found some pitting on both the bore of caliper cylinder and the piston itself ! I took a punt a while ago and bought the seal kits for all four too. Considering the cost to get a replacement caliper assembly sent to Australia, can anyone recommend where to get a new caliper cylinder and piston as i reckon these are all i need , my car is an 1980 924 turbo by the way. Another thing, could someone please tell me if i have the M471 package ? My car has 5 stud wheels,ATE Discs/calipers ,wheel spacers on rear, red koni shocks, i think green dots on springs, electric windows and mirrors, part leather seats,5 speed dog leg box, I'm asking this as i'm now going to get new calipers and find this m471 package mentioned every where i look, after googling found an article on 79 924 turbos with m471 package which seemed to fit my car, it is Petrol Blue in color. All very interesting, cheers. |

I've got a '79 with the M471. An easy way to check to see if you have the LSD is to jack up the rear and rotate one rear wheel by hand. If the other rear wheel turns the same direction you have the LSD. If that wheel turns the opposite direction, you have an open dif.

5 stud wheels/brakes and dog leg gearbox were standard equipment on euro/row cars throughout the years. It wasn't necessary to order M471 package in order to get vented discs etc. Your car could possibly be just normal version but I'm not saying it doesn't have the M471 package.
Just get normal 924 turbo calipers or early 944 calipers. They are the same. _________________ Mikko

+1. All Oz-delivered cars are spec'd this way.
You could try aPorschaPart. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

| Thanks Tas, appreciate the tip mate, didn't know that . I've ordered new units now from America so i'll be going with that, it's unreal in Australia when you mention Porsche to any parts supplier they go all funny on you, and you go on the net and there is practically any part you need ! Thanks |

According to our models & history section, the M471 package consisted of .8" wider track, brakes, sway bars, stiffer springs (rated with two green dots) and (red) Koni shock absorbers.
Additional digging reveals that M471 package should have the Girling, 928 355 011 04 master cylinder; the Girling front brake calipers (477 615 109 [L] & 477 615 110 [R]); rear brake calipers (944 352 429 00 [L] & 944 352 430 00 [R]); additionally, the 160# front springs denoted by two green dots; the 23mm front sway bar; and the optional 14mm rear sway bar, along with the aforementioned Koni reds.

| Thanks for the info Ideola, I reckon that's what mine is as it seems to have all what you say, the two green dots on front springs had my interest from the start with red konis, the brake master cylinder on mine had two sender units for brake lights and a fluid level sender on cap, was this original ? The calipers were interesting as the right front had an Audi stamp but none of the other 3 as they had ATE on them, the more I tinker with this car the more I love it ! Cheers mate. |
