hallo Guys it's more than one year that i'm away from the board

but for a really good reason

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kab9ltwyHy0

a small video of my 1980 931 efi conversion

the fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator comes from the sierra cosworth 4x4
the TPS is a weber marelli part from lancia delta integrale and is bolt on for the S2 manifold
injector are bosch from the audi 5 cyl turbo
the ecu is a dta S40
lambda sensr is the bosch lsu 4.2 type
intake manifold thanks to Rich
the pop off and spark plugs comes from my officine
the coilpacks are dirt cheap (less than 30 euros) and comes from the fiat punto 55 made by marelli
crank sensor from ford, zetec engines and custom made bracket

after some hous of road mapping the car runs really sweet!
no hesitation in any condition and the AFR is around 14
that's all for the first 50 kilometer

i have also rebuilt the turbo with a new core and new(used) turbohotside housing (number 4 in place of the old nr 6) the turbo spools up quickly around 2.200 rpm and the original internal popoff bypassed simply fitting the piston in the reverse mode, facing the spring, no more clicking now!

new valve steam seals purchased new from porsche (more or less 40 euros) they are SKF and very well made! much better than victor reinz one!

next step will be the 944 cooler and LPG sequential injection...
fuel is not cheap here!

So much room in the engine bay. Just awesome!

very nice !! great looking !!
but 14 is too lean my friend ! especially if you dont have an intercooler.

the engine sounds SUPERB...please take very good care of it !
what boost are you running?
AFR should be 12 or even 11 if you run big boost at 3300-3500 RPM and then lean out to 13.5 as you go for max power.
ofcourse the fine AFR tuning is related to the specific engine...but mainly i would go for those values.

here is a graph of my AFR for 0.9 bar...with an intercooler.

Sounds sweet

In the meanwhile, put the intake filter in a coldair zone! As it is your engine is sucking in 40° of post radiator heated air. You´re loosing power as well as risking the pistons in case of detonation.

Looks good, sounds great. . .you'll want to watch that plastic line where it is resting on the alternator though. . .it could abrade through.

thanks for the reply morghen!
the engine runs really sweet! new oil, new turbo, new valve seals, new spark plugs new spark cables "new inlet manifold" and tappets well adjusted... i hate clicking engines! and much more

boost is standard at the moment, i have installed also a boost controller...permanently switched off
i really like how the car runs in the original format, but sometimes the boost rises to 1.0 max 1.2 bar ( the boost controller has a remote controller) for a really small amount of seconds
tuning is not yet finished!

thank for your graph! will keep it as reference!

will do ASAP! in this configuration during running we have really low IAT
not more than 30/35 celsius degrees also after some hard launch

DTA ecu are really nice piece of engineering, ease of use, all kind of configuration is possible, and is really easy to do!!

my friend Silvio is the only offical importer and seller for italy he really knows the ability of those ecu's, the DTA-S40 is the cheapest and the entry level, it is expensive (around 700 eur) but when you start to tune the car will love the way you spent the money, megasquirt is deadly cheap! but the time needed to reach the level of DTA's tune is 10 times bigger...

in small words Dan...
DTA = 700 eur for the ecu, 50 eur fuel, 5 hours tuning
MEGASQUIRT = 100 eur the ecu 500 eur fuel, 50 hours tuning

and obviousely more chanches to break the engine for bad settings / more tuning errors

the serious EFI tuning is DTA...

Last time I tuned my car from scratch it took maybe 3 hours? I could see 50 hours if you have no idea whatsoever on what to do. But even then, most of that would be reading documentation and internet forums rather than driving time. Exaggeration for the win!

A year very well spent i think!!! Nice!!!

Have to agree with the points above tho, 14 is brave!!! Quench those cylinder walls with some extra fuel my friend!!!

I'm super impressed with the 2,200 RPM spool up - I'm building a custom supercharger install to get low down power but maybe I shouldn't have bothered!!!

I'm interested by the 3 hour tuning time for any standalone ECU on a new project install. I fitted an Adaptronic 420C to my brothers supercharged MX5 (miata) and admittedly that had fully 3D mapped individual cylinder water injection but I spent several days tuning it spread over 2 or 3 weeks - most of it perfecting the low speed / idle tune. If you can get an OEM result in 3 hours then quit whatever your day job is and set up in the UK - you will make a fortune!!!! Some real horror stories from UK tuners - I have personal experience of 4 of them - all spent at least 7 hours on the rollers and non managed a 'decent' tune!!!

I've just ordered a 420C for mine since I'm now familiar with it so hope it will be quicker for mine, but I was planning on tuning over days to weeks, not minutes to hours!!!!

NICE JOB!!!
Cheers, John.
