|
|
I have a 1982 Porsche 924. I purchased front wheel bearings and seals from Pelican. I have finally gotten around to installing these and they do not seem to be correct. Please review the attached photos. As you can see these bearings and seals are considerably larger than the ones that are on my car. Along with being too large for the hub they are also loose and sloppy on the shaft.
I have included a shot of the tag on my car to confirm that I am indeed selecting the correct parts for my vehicle.
Were the wrong parts selected on my part or were the wrong parts picked from their inventory? Or do I have an odd vehicle?
I ordered Front inner 999-059-098-00-M92, outer 999-059-065-00-M34 and this seal 477-405-641-M30

I haven't checked your part numbers against PET yet, but my guess is that you ordered parts for the five lug setup, and not for the four lug which you clearly have. Pelican's site can be a bit difficult to navigate for 2.0L 924 stuff...the only stuff they list is for the 924S/944 2.5L cars unless you specifically know the correct part number to look up and order. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yep, send them back and get them for the 4-lug cars.
Another option is to order them from RockAuto.com as their database is a bit easier to navigate for more common wear parts like those. _________________ Stefan

Sure enough I checked the PET, should have done that in the first place, and I do indeed have the front wheel bearings and seals for a 5 lug hub. Good news is that the kind folks at Pelican are going to let me swap for the correct parts. Did I mention I had been sitting on them sine 3/3/2010?
I was also concerned that I had the wrong bearings for the rear as well, but they are the same for the 4 and 5 lug on the rear.
FWIW I am in the process of a replacing all wheel bearings front and rear and rebuilding the front control arms, bushings and ball joints.
Been having issues with the front vibrating at 60+ mph and the rear making a funny rubbing noise when turning at low speeds <35. _________________ Mark

I was wondering how the process of replacing the front wheel bearings differs from the setup of say the 944 where there is an actual wheelhub to house the bearings as opposed to the 924 where they are set in the rotors?
The hub of the 944 seems to be aluminium vs the cast iron material of the 924 rotors, or not?
Cheers,

And another thing:
My cross reference says that the FRONT wheel bearings of the 924 are the same as the REAR wheel bearings of a VW golf (or rabbit as you call it)?
Is this true?
Cheers,
