Put down the TV Guide, everyone's been waiting for this! Ok, maybe two.
Anyway, back from the first of two days at the Inde Motorsports Ranch, here in Willcox, AZ. THE dustiest place on earth. The toofah did not fair too well today, the top mounted intercooler spit out the orange o-ring three times. Grrrrrr, not so much to do with the bracketry, they didn't break, (OEM brackets might be the ticket), but the high rpms, and engine torque are possibly the culprits. The T/B attachment point for the original turbo tube is also the TMIC attachment point. The bolt I have there vibrated loose every time, and then the intercooler would separate. Ran the track at 5-5500 rpms for most of the way in third, nice. The blind apexes and not-flat track was pretty interesting. There is snow/rain in the forecast tonight and tomorrow morning, so may not be another day to break something!
Some of the cars in attendence today:
This one has a Shelby-prepped 'van' engine, we had something in common! The van part of course! The car won a few titles, and the dude paid 18,000 for it!
One of the nicest 912s you'll ever see:
And finally, here's a shot of three 911s whizzing by:
Slow camera operator I guess!
All and all, a somewhat frustrating day today. I did get to ride two sessions in one of the 944 spec cars they have. Huge positive impression with a real driver behind the wheel, and real tires underneath.

Safety wire? Or a longer bolt with a nylock nut spun on the bottom? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Hard to get the fingers involved in this spot! A skin reducer I have found. However, on the last fix, I was able to get a lock washer underneath with the nut. But, by then, I was too tired to try it out. And, if it failed, ugh, I'da driven it 10 miles back with no boost. Spike's an amazing creature though, in spite of myself, it keeps on working. Haven't killed it yet! But, the lockrite is a great idea, I'll try to find some tomorrow. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

What attachment method did you end up settling on for the camera? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Nice video, looks like fun.
Loved it when the Dodge passed you. That thing sounds sweet, like a Shelby motor should.
Must be a really cool feeling running with the big dogs! _________________ 81 Porsche 924

Looks like you were running a different track configuration that we did when I was out there for a PCA Instructor's School. A little bit slower in your configuration, looked like. Still fun, with all of those elevation changes
How long are you around for? There is a NASA event there coming up in May I think. I should be there for that one.

We'll be long gone by then, back to wisconsin. Probably hit Deming in March for one last trip around the track. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Very cool video, pictures and what an awesome looking track!
BTW, more info on the Shelby Can-Am:
http://www.shelbycanam.com/
They were pretty heavy and slow when compared to other vehicles in their class, but for scaled up Spec Racers they are likely a ton of fun!
BTW, here's a van with a 'van motor in it:
