I love my carbs even as poorly tuned as they are! I have had zero starting issues since I got them only an exploded clutch and shreaded timing belt. That being said if I can ever afford an efi system I'm going to drop the carbs in a hurry! That system that bolts to the DCOE manifold I already have would be very nice!

glad to hear you have good luck with your carbs. If the car doesnt start and drive, its utterly useless to me. It could be because its cold in manitoba, but if my ford starts when its -45, I think the porsche should start when its 0.
Closest I got it to run today was it sputtered while cranking like it wanted to start but just no go.

i think the main problem is, its 30 years old. The cost of replacing my entire CIS system vs. carbs. i think ill wait for the carbs to show up or just find a whole new car and use this one for parts.

it could just be something little... check for spark, check that the fuel pump is running, simple things dont give up on the CIS!

When mine starts to sputter and not start well, I know it's time to replace the plugs.

A Sloppy old engine means they get fouled fairly easily, but I'm running hotter than the recommended plugs (with higher octane fuel), which helps them burn off the crud.

It never gets to -30C around these parts, but with the plugs I put in last month, it fires up instantly below freezing.

Just because you get a spark in air doesn't mean you're getting a decent spark in the combustion chamber. It takes more energy to ionize the compressed gas in your cylinder than air at STP.

Constant cranking doesn't work. The CSV will stop within 10 seconds.
Do a search and read into it.

Plenty 924 owners across the globe drive their CIS car summer and winter. Not to mention the CIS equipped GTi's and Volvo's out there in the cold that do their job well. And surely back then when these cars where fresh, they didn't need replacement during winter. If you want a reliable toofah during winter you stick to CIS.

You call the CIS system old. True.
That doesn't say what is wrong with it, or yours.

Regards, Harm.

By 30 years old I mean. All the rubber and seals, lines etc. Are old. Don't get me wrong Im very impressed by the vehicle when its working. They certainly don't build them like they used to.

The 924 is going on the back burner this year while I finish my garage, and get prepared for a full restoration. Like I said I love the car im 5'7'' and 145lbs. Fits me like a glove. Im looking into megasquirt options as I want a car I can just jump in and drive. Ill be looking for pieces for either megasquirt or carbs.
