At the moment im so confused like a fat kid with a salad infront of him.

I replaced my waterpump and now i got no start. I removed the Timing belt to get ahold of one of the bolts but the engine didnt move since then.
And i just put the belt back on and use the 90 degree tenshion twist method

Im tried cranking the car like 20 times now , it turns over but doenst fire.
Ive got fuel infront , i removed the hose which comes directly out of my Filter and its spraying like a 7 year old with a fire hose.

Any help?
Thanks

Valve spring tension on the cam will often move it when the belt is removed. Also, if the car is in gear and is pushed forward or backwards it will change the crank position.

Also, also, the crank pully has to be moved a distance of one tooth before you tension the belt, things move. You may want to check TDC marks once again.

Do anyone got some pics of how these TDC marks look like , the originals ones? Me and my dad did some with whiteout few months back when changing belts so it wasnt really TDC was just a mark to line up evrything again. Top pully got a white dot on it , and does it need to point to the pointy thing on the cover. How about the lower one? I havent seen a dot on that yet?

Thanks

As you tension the belt by moving the tensioner pulley, the belt will move. Hence, the crank or cam pulley will move too, usually the crank pulley. Can't recall off-hand which direction, but I would turn the crank pulley to offset this movement. Once the belt was tensioned correctly, then the pulleys top and bottom line up at TDC. Takes a few tries to get it right.

Many years ago cam Belt stripped off teeth. Got a replacement and told "she who must be obeyed" it would be a 1/2 hour job.

Half an hour later job done. But car wouldn't start. Checked Haynes and lined up cam mark. Still no joy.

Finally sat down and read set up timing section.

I realized when I looked at the marks I'd left the car in gear when I changed the belt.

No problem.... except I didn't have a socket big enough to put on the crank nut to turn the shaft to the oil mark.

I needed the wife to push the car in gear, back and forth until I lined up all the marks. The belt was on and off about 4 times to get it right.

We spent about an hour before is was correct. She'd just had knee surgery and was not a happy car mechanic. As she leaned her crutches against the wall so she could push the car her comments were not complimentary.

My 1/2 hour job is still a subject of comment whenever I ask for a little assistance.

I have found the oil pulley marks and the cam pulley marks the most reliable to align the valve timing.
Also note the rotor position on the dissy is set to 10deg BTDC for ROW cars. (on the cap the lead above it should also be no 1.)
thanks to a forum member for the pic of the cam cover.

Ozzie,

The picture actually shows the rotor set to fire at about 10 degrees ATDC.
