All,
Have a 79 924 NA that needs a hatch. Found one from an 85 944. Will this fit? I know that the 3rd brake lite is extra.

But it is a bit heavier due to the extra rubber. The struts have a different part # that for different models.

There are many (ex: ebay) that sell the struts as fits all models of 924/944. While they do fit, the won't properly support the hatch. The 944 strut is stronger and there are reports that they contribute to the failure of the lighter hatches.

I replaced mine from an early 944 and got matching struts when it was clear that the old struts would not support it.
