| We'll learn together, maybe I've been abusing Porsches ever since my 1966 912 (my first Porsche bought it in 1973). |

Seems that I've been told!
Like I said I'll use and abuse her as soon as she comes out of storage and passes her spring checkup. |

well it depends on what's going on, I normally shift at around 3500-4000 but if I'm trying to go fast I will hold out til 5800. _________________ -'87 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 6" of lift 33" Super Swampers

awww i feel so left out...stupid automatic! I drive pretty hard when the weather is right and the car is warmed up. I usually give it 1/2 throttle or more all the time...hence why i must get such shitty gas mileage. When driving my Mustang which is stick, it redlines at 6000rpm...i bring her right up to about 5000rpm. I dont shift too often though..its a 3-speed and i have one hell of a heavy clutch. To be honest my leg gets pretty tired after driving in dense traffic, and when i release the clutch..my friggin leg gets like rejected back up from the heavy spring. It was a workout driving her between home and the shop when i still hadnt setup the powersteering pump. Heavy ass clutch, manual tranny and no power steering...not too fun a driving experience. I figure im shifting around 5k because my tach is broken. Havent had the $ to buy a new tach for it yet. Ive been driving it mostly by ear and trust me when i say it aint too hard to hear the engine! _________________ 1987 Zermatt Silver Porsche 924S <-- Sold in Nov. '04

| yeah, with my 77 no power steering or power brakes, sometimes the clutch feels like you're pushing the engine forward! |

For the majority of the time I kinda baby her around 3 grand, every now and then I get a clear road with some room to play and will blow the carbon out , shifting around 5K. IF am trying to run her out, I try to play the torque bands and shift as I feel her stop the pull for a given gear. It is working as my 1/4 (2 landmarks, very casual, no timing except the speedo)is getting better. Most probably about 98 -105mph is tyhe best I can get....And remember the preface in parenthesis above---very casual.
this post should be interesting to follow. _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever.

While driving I have plenty of time between turns to rest up the arms. I relax the hands and wiggle my fingers, check the mirrors, put the arm out for a while, pull it back in...... Check the gauges, tap the speedo to see if it’s just stuck at 28, nuts, it’s working. Then jam a knee against the wheel, grab the paperback out of the glove box and pick up reading where I left off. I set an egg timer on the dash to remind me to start looking for the next turn and in case I nod off. I found that I can put my feet up on the dash too. It seems that there is little difference whether I push on the far right pedal or not.

I just took a poke at my old 77 and an artistic license. |

Slow compared to a Ferrari.
No, I'm happy with it, if you "drive'em like you stole'em" then you up the chance of damaging the motor or tranny. I just want it to corner like it does and keep everyone looking.

I almost always shift over 4,000 RPM. With the reputation for strength in the 924 bottom end, I see no reason not to. _________________ Jon Furst |

Definitely at or above 5000 every time... but it's a racecar, does it count?
The turbo is usually around 3000, but I'll wind it to 5000 when I get a fresh stretch of country road and know it'll have time to cool down afterwards before I get where I'm going. _________________ Vaughan Scott
