If all goes to plan I will be buying my third 924 in about 1 hour This car is pretty sweet. M471, factory alarm, A/C, ~74000KM (odometer doesnt work anymore), vintage radar detector form the 80's that is hard wired in.

I will post pics when I get it home soon, wish me luck!!!

Is this the car I think it is? I'm just gonna sit right here until you post those pics. And if there are no pics by the time I go home this afternoon, I'm gonna drive to Ed and put pepper in your tank.

Partly out of jealousy, you understand.

I'm practicing spelling 'congratulations' right now...

Was it one of the 924s on kijiji? Did he make it home in spite of the shite weather? Luckily, this morning I brought my mom's Lincoln MKZ in for an oil change. I could really get to like traction control, all-wheel drive and ABS, especially on roads like these. We've had a little freezing rain and snow too. Fun fun.

Since Brock is being such a tease I'll whet your appetite...

All the tasty bits, nice original paint, 5-bolt, original records and paper trail, will be sweet with the fresh engine he's building. We'll have to get together in the spring, I lit a fire under Brock last night, he was planning on waiting for the weather to warm before he starts swapping good parts from his red car to this one. No slacking on my watch.

I knew it! I've been watching this one for some time. I seem to recall the pricing started around $4000 for it and came down and down and down. If I hadn't already bought my 944, this one would have been on my agenda. I really liked it.

Yeah, they're here:

http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=33356&highlight=

So far I've done the whole intake, the FOES (all of it), bought new winter tires, R&R'ed the clutch hydraulics and I can't remember what else. She's a lady!

We sure have hijacked this thread!

Brock, are you out there?

slam - its the one from kijiji!!!

The story began in spring when a family friend was going to do a estate sale for a gentleman that passed away. He saw the car and knew my dad and I have been restoring ours. He sent two pics to my dad. One from the front and one from the back. So you couldnt tell what the wheels were. But you could see the turbo spoiler so I knew it was probably a special car. We drove out to ardrossan to check it out.

When we got there 3 tires were flat but the body was so straight it hurt. It had the 5-lug spider webs so I knew right away it had the M471 package. Its green with a dark brown interior. The car was unlocked so we helped ourself to under the hood. Everything was there and no oil in the intake box. With ~77000KM I was in shock.

We struck a deal with the man responsible for his estate. We almost had it complete when he called us and said the car was gone, someone in the family bought it. Then it popped up on kijiji for a nice price of $4250. Thats when I thought I would never get it. I called the ad and asked what the shape of the car was mechanically. The seller didnt know but insisted I come out. Eventually I went to see and he drove it to a car wash and it stalled on him. I met him at the car wash. The car would run for a second then die. Smoke would come out of the injector ports and some places in the intake track. The injector o rings are probably cracked letting air in. OR it could be a hot start problem, who knows I havent had enough experience with the car yet.

I looked at the car and it needs tires, the right rear brake shield was wet like old oil leaked on to it, so the brakes will need to be rebuilt. The odometer doesnt work, usual cracked dash but the body is so nice.

Eventually after weeks we agreed on $1500. I guess he bought it for $2250 but isnt a mechanic so he wouldnt be able to fix it himself which would be crazy expensive. He wanted to move it so I picked it up last night.

I called a tow truck to tow it to my parents house as carly wouldnt be happy if I took her heated underground parking stall for a car I wouldnt drive until summer The tow truck driver was interesting. He jacked the back up and didnt want to doll the front end so he could save me $25. He also wanted to put the safety chain around one of the rear axles. I insisted he did not do this. He kept saying "they send me for the high end stuff," "I towed a $180000 jag type s yeaterday." Whatever! He ended up dolling the front since the clearance was so low. However the right rear tire went flat causing the muffler to be crushed a bit. Also, the tongs were too far apart to the slipped up and got wedged in between the tire and the front of the rear wheel well. Once we got it unstuck it was clear that some paint from the wheel well lip was scratched off. But it was home safe(ish).

Thats the story part but heres some crappy pics I took at 6pm last night. The pic Chrenan posted is probably the best one.

PCA membership hasnt gone up much, I think its $50 now.

Sorry I have more pics of the manuals than the car but it was snowing like crazy and it was dark last night. O ya, I looked for any water leaks and couldnt find any the interior is pretty nice except the dash and worn seats. I might take some more pics soon once it stops snowing but its beauty is hiding under ice and snow for the moment. The nieghbours are probably thinking "another one? isnt that three"

Okay, here goes (remember, I've been practicing):

CONGRADUMALATIONS!

That's the one I've been watching. Interesting, though - the paperwork says 1980 Turbo but the car doesn't have the NACA duct or the nose vents. Is it a 931? Looks like a GREAT find for $1500! It's always the inside deals that are the best. Poor car, towed by an idiot through the snow.

Call me if you need parts, as I may be able to help.

slam- THANKS!!! I cant believe I finally got it.

I thought the same about the manuals. Its NA but Chrenan was saying he had the same manual for his '80. Its too bad it was sitting outside all winter, I have a car cover but Im afraid to put it on with all that ice stuck to the car.

I'll let you know if I need anything, mostly brakes I think since I have so much new stuff on my '79 to transfer over.

Does anyone know how many M471 cars were imported into North America?

How can I tell if it has an LSD? I have never payed attention when reading about them on the board since my '79 didnt have one.

Well... ummm... I have an M471 1980 924. Guess what it's missing? The brakes...

Brock, if early 944 calipers will work, I have some, and the rebuild kits too. I've got enough for 2 cars.

I didnt know you had a M471. I read on the world wide interweb that 100 were imported to the US. I know of another M471 that is green like mine at Karmac, that makes me think they arent as rare as only 100 cars imported.

My sebring was one of ~1300 and I have never seen another one in person.

I believe the brakes are early 944 brakes, I would bet mine just need to be rebuilt so I might need a rebuild kit.
