|

Hi all friends I just wat to share the experiene of the Carrera...
First drive on warm, dry roads for my son and me! Last year, we just drove the car home after the purchase of the car in November in below zero temperatures. After a thorough wash is went right into storage... So it was real nice to eventually take the car for a longer drive yesterday- some 280 km.
I must say the Carrera really impressed us. - The poise, the grip the sheer roadholding is just brilliant. The balance is utterly neutral, with delicate steering - with lots of feedback and feel. The presicion is total
There is absolutely no roll, even in tighter turns. Roundabouts can be "attacked" at absurd speed with no drama at all...
The engine is quite a stunner. For 2.0 liters it is astonishing You can bumble around at 2000 rpm's in 5th gear and it will pick up speed with ease even from there. At over 3000 it just GOES - and what other cars that were behind is just GONE in a blink of the eye. The speed goes from a cruise to silly speeds in an INSTANT - which is brilliant fun.
When the road is tight and really demanding the car just SHINES. It must be the sheer torque of the engine that really spits it down the road with an ease that is literally outstanding. The handling in these conditions is like you really don't have to think at all - just GO. It feels like nothing can upset is at all, which is just superb. And a little unsetteling...
The most fun thing off all though is the FEEL of the thing. It kind of ooooozzzzees Motorsport derived/developed "substance" and the sounds and feedback it gives is just sonourous. This is maybe no surprice, given its Holologation Special background, but even then is makes the car stand out. The wholeness of the car, the way the road just shrimps as the speed rises and the scenery goes blurry gives the broadest smile and the laughter gets stuck in your throat at the experience - it it just GREAT.
Add the noises from the KKK turbolader and the wastegate and exhaust, it is a brilliant soundtrack with lots of drama. You can sense the turbo flexing its muscles and then comes a surge of boost and power that makes you laugh out loud... Never have I driven a car that feels so turbocharged. It is the thing that really stands out in a very, very good way!
The car feels intense, like a slap in your face and has road prescence like I don't know what. We came home very, very impressed! The feeling of driving something really special lingered, and left a surge of wanting to go out again and drive some more.
The thing that really stuck was how strong the car's personality shone through, the way it left a big impression, the shrill laughter, the smiles and warm feeling of having had the priviledge to really drive the thing, to gel with this special Porsche... Bliss

I'm deeply in LOVE already... As if the looks alone wasn't enough
Kids stop dead in their tracks, grown men STARE - this thing really have prescence.
But the driving impression was just brilliant. I am very, very impressed.
I try to think what it would have felt like back in 1981...
When driving to our cabin in the family Volvo 240 in the early 1980s we came across a silver 924 Carrera GT with race-detals, race-seats and harnesses etc on our favoured resting place. I have never been able to shake off the utterly otherwordly impact that car had on me. I got to study that car well. I had read about the LeMans entrance of the 924 GTP and I was very taken with it all...
Now I'm living a dream |
