So the muffler snapped off from the bracket it was connected to. This metal piece appears to be done for, but what should I look for to replace this piece? For now ill have to see if I can bungie it.

I think its two brackets. The part that came off was from the smaller bracket.

IIRC, the bracket that probably broke is the one that goes around the muffler, correct? It hangs off another bracket that's bolted to the frame of the car, right? I seem to remember the strap going around the muffler as being a piece of plumbers strap or something like that, in which case you can buy a roll at the local hardware store and replace it. Or you can put up a post on the For Sale board and see if somone has an original one laying around they'd like to get rid of.

The bracket that's bolted to the frame of the car is still intact, right?

Hmm well from the look of things I may want to replace all support pieces for the muffler. They are all more or less the same poor condition. I think I may even want to consider a new muffler.

What would suggestions be for a new muffler? Stick with the same type or upgrade to something else? Anyone have experience with those flowmaster mufflers?

Anyone with experience in this situation know what all the parts are that will be needed? What are some of the better online parts stores to order from for exhaust parts? I'm not finding too many sites with all the muffler support parts.

here are the images!

You gonna DIY or replace pieces the OEM route.
Once I was able to redrill 4 holes in the pieceof
bracket that mounted to the frame, after that
I just cut, drilled piece of flat stock then wrapped
the muffler . . do you still have the rubber hanger
brackets ???
