Hi everyone. Owner of a major project 77 924s That's been sitting for 16 years. I fell in love with it when I saw it sitting in a field half way covered in grass. I asked the owner if she wanted to sell it and she said "You want it? Take it, titles in the glove box"

All I've gotten about this car since day one is shit! everyone but me hates the thing and can't see the point in me liking it so much. I'm hoping by joining this forum I can find others that understand the obsession.

I've spent about 3 or 4 months figuring out the 30 or so different reasons it wouldn't start or run when it did start.
I've replaced so far:
2 fuel lines, vacuum lines, distributor cap, wires spark plug and other(< these are some of the things that were damaged by rodents).
fuel injectors, cold start valve, and filter were clogged from sitting. gas tank was filled with some junk that reminded me of seaweed put through a blender and took me a while to clear out.
Aux air valve, not really sure what that even does but it worked I guess...
Air intake tube was pretty warped causing a leak between the throttle body and the fuel distributor/air box I held it over a hot burner on my stove for about an hour heating and reshaping it..
Battery: went the cheap route and got a used one with different posts so I ended up redoing the battery connections, didn't look that great anyway.
new tires all around.
Alternator and vbelt
I buffed out the paint with a scouring pad and some rubbing compound(it was heavily water spotted and faded) and the car looks amazing now by the way. I live in an apartment, when they saw it there they told me "get rid of it!" not make it look better or cover it.
There was quite a few more things done, this is just all the stuff I can really think of that HAD to be done.

Finally I had it running like a champ. I'd putted it around a little and noticed it was really difficult to get it into gear, rev would grind and first was nearly impossible 2,3, and 4 were a bit sticky but still made it in.

I went and started it up with the intentions of doing a test drive/ take it to a friends house to get some help with it. I backed out of my spot went to throw it in first pushed a little to hard and clunk, thought I broke the linkage or something so I crawled underneath and everything looks fine. The shifter and linkage will move freely but not grab any gear. No noise, no movement.
I'm not the best mechanic out there and I'm really not the best when it comes to internal transmission.

I guess my questions are:

I have access to a five speed out of an 82 924 non turbo. Is it possible to swap and aside from the transmission itself what else will I need from the other car?

I would prefer to keep mine original with the 4 speed, but I don't even know what I did to it really. What kind of repairs might I be facing and how might I do them? On the car? Do I have to pull the transmission.. so on.

Thanks for any advice. Sorry if I sound a little scattered too.
