Hi again.
I have a lot of questions and I tried searching, but in the mean time I wanted to post and ask here. I want to know so much at once so it can get overwhelming searching.
in no real order.
1.) What are my wheel options for a 924s? (width, size, backspacing, swaps from other models?) I really like the 5 spoke twist Porsche wheels will they fit?
2.) Where to get started with troubleshooting passenger window not working. (switch or motor not sure, but both drivers and passengers switches do nothing for that window, but Drivers window works fine... Slow but fine...)
3.) Tilt up power sun roof. I know its sealed up now, not leaking, but I would love to get it working again, where do i start?..
4.) I want to replace my rear speakers, but a guy told me not to and to do 6x9's in back because I will never get panel off where speakers are? (is that true?)
5.) How do I change the rear diff and trans-axle fluid?
6.) My dash miles has been stuck at 34k now for a few years. (the car really has only been driven a few 1000 miles if any, but I want to get it working again so it will be accurate)
7.) My AC does't work and I think my heat doesn't either...
My father though he was doing it good by blowing out the AC lines with his air compressor a few years back and he tried to recharge it himself with no luck. how can I do it myself if at all possible?
8.) any mods I can do to gain a few extra Pony's? I read somewhere that cone filters do not help much because they get warm air and there is no good cold air spot?
9.) my friend and I noticed paint flaking off under the brake master cylinder mounted to the brake booster. he told me that I probably need a new master cylinder because the seals where probably gone from sitting and thats why it leaks brake fluid onto the brake booster. he also said it may have got inside the brake booster and I may have to suck that out???
is any of that true???
well all thanks for the help in advance and here is a video I made for your entertainment. I hope you enjoy,

Probably. I don't know enough about it to list every wheel/tyre combination you can use. There's a bit of reading to do here.

Somewhere to start. Tidbits here, too. And here. Another portion here. And that's just back to 2007...

What do you mean by sealed? We've had at least one person here who thought it was a good idea to use silicone sealant (it isn't, in case you were wondering).

No.
Of course, getting it back on again...

RTFM would be a ripping good start!

Buy a working used one. Or buy and fit a new gear. Some info here.

EDIT (again): Answers pending... see below...

A few? Three, specifically? Lose the rear seat and spare tyre..? Half fill the gas tank..? Fit lighter wheels and tyres..?

Probably.
Despite my smart-arsed-ness, it looks like a real nice one in the vids. I bet it's a whole lot more fun to drive that those piles of junk surrounding it on the drive
Good luck with it.

the heat cant break if the engine works the heat works, The AC is probably a charge issue I would advise converting to R134A it only costs a few dollars to do and the self charge kit is cheap a shop charge can be costly and not necessarily useful. The passenger window may be as simple a a fuse, switch or relay, check those first then move on to the motor. The sun roof is similar to the windows check the switch relay and fuse. The main problem with them is that the drive gears were made of plastic and strip easily. To change thoes requires a bit of interior roof disassemble, a project i have been putting off but will get around to my self one of these days. I plan to machine the gears out of aluminum to avoid the plastic issue if you have any shop skils or know a good shop i would advise doing the same. My rear speakers dont work either, i have not bothered to replace them as it requires the removal of the rear interior panel and my front 2 are good enough that i see no reason to spend the time an money when no one sits back there any way. My odometer is broken as well again its one of those things that almost is not worth fixing. Usualy there is no way to fix the one you have, you simply have to replace the speedo which is not hard but if you just want to drive the car and have some fun with it get every thing major working great then come back to stuff like that. From teh video every thing looks like its in great shape, alot better than my junkyard restorer that im only half way through. One option that i have looked in to for more power is an ECU replacement, MegaSquirt has a very reasonable option that comes both pre assembled and build it your self. This gives you the option to computer tune your engine your self and run it how ever you like. I would agree with the fact that filters dont do much, as an engineer who works on an active Formula SAE race team i will tell you that when it comes to things like that in most cases the amount of power that is actually gained in a situation like this is so negligible that the cost almost does not ballence out the slight increase in performance. The ECU will make a difference as you can program your own fuel maps and spark timing maps or let the software optimize it all for you. Some cool mods that i have made is a switch start, dosent increase performance or anything but it looks awesome and i have my ignition on the left side like an original 917 or 911 .
good luck with every thing
feel free to ask questions |

Yes... um... more likely a leak issue.
Smoothie says;

Now, strictly speaking, he's talking about 944 air-con. But I'd hazard a guess most air-con systems have this failsafe. Even if it doesn't, first off I'd probably try to ensure the compressor is working (could entail checking that the switchgear is working, that it's getting power, etc). If your compressor kicks in but there's no cold air, still very likely that your refrigerant is just leaking out.
Also in that thread they mention using a dye to see a leak, and that the dye is only visible under ultraviolet light. I don't know if that has to be the case? Maybe there's dye that's visible to the naked eye? It doesn't matter, my point is; try verifying that the system is not leaking anywhere and if it is leaking, replace any hoses/fittings/components where it's leaking.
Then when you're sure the mechanicals are working, and the system isn't leaking, then you can charge it up with gas. How do you do that? I dunno, I've never done it. But I'll bet there's a write-up on it here somewhere...
(also, you could find out who manufactured the air conditioning system in your car then try to find the manual for it... actually, that's the first thing I'd try but I doubt you'll be successful in this case because of the age and probably the obscurity of the system...) _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

The front wheels from any Boxster, 993, or 996 will fit on all 4 corners of a 924. To be clear, you need 4 front wheels. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

FWIW: My car will not run the passenger window from either control but works just fine if you press the button on both doors. That indicates that the control for the passenger window on the drivers door is not working right.
I've more pressing things than that, so I haven't acturally fixe it yet. _________________ Mark

I run 7x15 wheels with the 52.3mm offset (late model turbo) I added 1/4in spacers on the front and longer lugs. This set up lets me run 225/45 (or 50)/15's on all for points with no issues. The benifit is that I can rotate any wheel and tire to any position, which is really nice when extending tire wear while autocrossing.
I went through a whole issue with power windows, unfortunatly not the one you are having. It sounds like a connection to me. Try cleaning them all with electricians contact spray cleaner.
Power...you can spend lots of money for very little gain on these engines. Less weight will be the best route as was previously mentioned. If your A/C isnt working...and maybe you don't mind...you can lose nearly 30 pounds taking it off. Go to race seats and lose another 20 or so. After that my solution to going faster was handling...and seat time. These cars are cornering monsters if set up right. A good starting place is sway bar upgrades front and rear and #250 Weltmeister springs up front. After that indexing the rear of the car to ride lower (like it was designed and delivered in Europe) will greatly improve things. But be warned indexing is a BIG job.
For seat time, get connected with your local PCA and hit the DE and AX events. Its a blast!
Cheers,
