Ok so im considering of painting the 924. Its already had a another paint job in its live by the P/O because in the doors / engine bay , its a diffrent type of blue. The paint i got on here is starting to make white round spots on my bonnet/roof. So i was thinking , my one friend just painted his car with matt black spray cans. Its kinda looks good but its noticeable it wasnt a provesional paintjob , and it only cost him about $100 and about 5 hours of painting

Why is paint shops paint so nice? Is it because they use compressors to paint it with?

Ive got a compressor and im gno try to get my paint which is inside my doors/engine bay matched so i can make it orginanal colours again. Any ideas?

I used flat black paint to cover my hood, and euro bumpers till I can afford a real paint job. During this past summer, both hood and front bumper took a beating, and started flaking small bits. Not sure if it's the quadzillion number of bugs that hit the car, we had a hot and humid summer, or, just the wind.

If you can get the spray equipment get a gravity fed gun,
a compressor big enough to do the job. Cheap paint &
your off, theres cheap laquer from auto zone, Nappa
has a good hard clear in there carry line i havent seen
any good colors from them except farm and industrial
colors. Youll need laquer thinner to keep things clean.
a respirator & rubber gloves. Some people have even
hand rolled there cars here with rollers & a pan. You
can rattle can & clear that with a cheap clear. The laquers
that autozone has are cheap enough and they have some
cool colors. From there the cost goes up as does quality
of paint, when painting these cars its best to get gallon sizes
of each. Theres also single stage paints out there, imron is one.

Not all paint is created equal different uv properties different gloss levels different resistance to fading blushing etc , stick with known brands IMHO you're in aus so perhaps concept/ standox paints or ppg or spies hecker etc I've tried the cheap supetcheap auto septone paint and the results were shit as was the blush resistance of Spartan paints but that was a mix between poor paint poor thinner choice high humidity and bad paint gun flow . So much more to it then a compressor

Reasons Spray Bombs are bad:
Spray cans don't have enough pressure or volume to get enough coverage. Color match between batches can be off a noticeable amount. No catalyst hardening agent (otherwise they would dry on the shelf).

Reasons Spray Bombs are good:
Cheap. Cheap ...and uh, oh yeah CHEAP!

There's a way to get good paints made into spray cans, though cost of the paint is more expensive than regular spray cans purchased off of the shelf. A local parts store here called Oriely's, and also Car Quest, can make any of their quality paints into spray cans. You have to use them within a few weeks though if the catalyst is added or they dry out. The way I did it once was to use two spray cans at once (one each hand) to get the coverage I needed, then had the paint store mix clear and the hardening catalyst for me into 8 spray cans. It cost me just over $100 for a total respray on my '86 Trans Am and the thing actually looked really good! I'll try to find a pic...

EDIT: Picture of TA sprayed with rattle cans. I actually got compliments on how good the paint was! LOL!

Ok thanks for that. Got another question though. How would one go on painting the trimming? Around the Hatch? Would i need to remove the trimming or can i just tape my hatch off and paint the trimming?

I'm using these methods on my 924:

I've only applied primer so far, but its come out quite nicely so far.

If you ever get to shoot clear do not over catalize ( ... maybe
your thinking itll flow better if you do.)

Because: It will be soft and not harden enough.
