Hey guys,

So it has been raining quite a bit here recently and ive found mystery water in both rear passengar footwells. The strange thing is:
The rear seats are bone dry, the overmats in the rear footwells are bone dry, its just under the overmats that there is quite a bit of water. The car was parked when all of this happened and not being driven.

Also my doors seem to fill up with water, so when I open the doors up, it streams out. I cant seem to find a drainhole in the bottom of my doors?!?

Cheers,
Mark

I had a perished outer sunroof seal. It looked ok-ish but would let water in.
Got a better seal now; It only has one split in it, but that still lets in a few drips in heavy rain. I also found the drain area needed some attention. there are four drain holes in each corner of the sunroof seat that need to be free of crud.

The door drains are below the handle/lock...just follow straight down and you'll see an eloganted slit between the skins. Usually FULL of gunk so use a stiff piece of wire to clean them out....and eventually get rid that sloshing sound everytime you turn!

hope that helps

Cheers Tiny,

Ill have a look at the sunroof drains and pick up a new outer seal tomorrow and hopefully fix this It was just weird that the water was dripping cunningly on both sides and missed the over mats and landed on the floor carpet, but weirder things have happened

As for the doors, when I open them up a ton of water came out of each door. It seems it is getting in between the outer part of the window and the seal. I have no handle/locks on the car anymore, but im guessing the drain you are talking about is on the bottom part of the door? I cant see anything there but maybe im just not looking in the right place?

I was thinking of drilling 2 small holes at the bottom front/rear part of each door to allow it to drain onto the sill and not fill up?

I've had my fair share of tracing water leaks.

It may also be no.3 on ideola's post here:
http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=28704

Also, just remembered each door has two drains. They're not holes as such. They are openings where the inner and outer door skins are joined...if you get down there undernea the door.....follow along the bottom of the door you'll see the gaps between the skins...one near the front...and one near the back on the bottom edge of the door. Yours are probably so clogged that you don't even recognise them as drains, but they are.

On mine, when I fitted the central locking I did a proper clean from the inside of the door. Amazed at how my mud and silt had collected in there from the rain, but hey... this is the UK.

Sometimes after a night of rain I still come to the car and have to open the door....to allow the water to empty out from those drains. I think perhaps something like the seal may block them when the door is closed.

Haha Scorpio! While this is the most likely scenario, well, I dont know where I was going with the above statement.

Problem solved!!!
I removed the excessively hot well hydrated girl from the back seat and everything seems to be better now.

Its either that or the lower drain hole was so blocked up (cheers for pointing it out tiny) and the car was parked on a uphill, that when it rained the door was filling with water and coming out from between the door and the doorpanel into the rear passengar area.

Personally the hydrated girl theory makes most sense, but I have fixed both anyway and we will see =)

Also, dried-up quarter-window seals will leak like this - they may look fine but they won't seal the windows. The leak presents exactly as you describe, too. Wet floors but dry seats.

the sunroof has four drains
2 go into the area near the bonnet/hood hinges.
the rear two go into the rear wells either side of the hatch area.

I blow them out occasionally with compressed air to make sure they drain ok.

Careful blowing them out with compressed air, you could knock the tube off the drain hole and then your back to square one.

Cheers guys,

Ill go over all the points listed and make sure all are good, afterall the car sat for 15-18 years until this point, so best check everything to get it done right..

I checked the sunroof drains and all were connected and seemed to do their job, although after an extensive hosepipe test i did get a dribble in from the sunroof, rubber was shot though. Damn those things are overpriced! I did pick up some rubber for the sunroof today and did the whole thing for about €12 but its not the best fit in the world. Ill pick up the foam rubber seal which the factory uses and make my own seals oneday soon. Will end up extremely close to stock and only cost about €10 to make an entire new seal.

Ill check the grommets when daylight hits too..

Cleaned out the door today as described above and it no longer fills up with water, also filled the small hole in the door panel where the old window crank use to be with the manual windows with a neat little LED light that fits perfectly in there and looks like its meant to be there. I must get my lazy ass out to buy a camera to shoot some new interior pics, but it is looking great!

Will try to find 2 magnetic switches tomorrow so I can get my interior lights working again, after the door conversion I lost the door sensor and cant find a good place to put a new one. <--Least of the problems right now.

Cheers again for all the help guys!
