Stock 924 na flywheel? 20lbs
Lightened 924 na flywheel? 17lbs
Stock 924 na trailing arm (loaded with drum brake parts)? 42lbs
86 944 na aluminum trailing arm (loaded with disc brake parts)? 46lbs
All measured by my bathroom scale, so accuracy is not guaranteed.
I forgot to measure the weight difference between the 23mm and 28mm torsion bars, but they were significant.
I'll try to see if there is a noticeable weight difference between the loaded axles (with CV joints and grease, etc). _________________ Stefan

That's funny, I thought those Al arms felt heavier. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Yeah, but trying assemble one of these on the floor would result in much longer lasting pain than a simple bruised foot/ego _________________ Stefan

I scrapped all the insulation off the inside of the car Weight diff ???4lbs
changed out the front and rear bumpers and shocks to euro bumpers and metal pieces difference about 50 lbs
Race seats would save a lot of weight.
I don't remember the weight of the horsehair pad in the trunk and the rear seat combo. I know I listed them all here in the past. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Yep, the car has no front bumper, just the CGT nose. I actually should fix that somehow. Might just have to mock something up for safety's sake.
Most of the sound deadening is gone and the carpets are long gone.
No rear seat
Race seats, bolted directly to the stock mounting points.
Fiberglass nose, hood, front and rear quarters with a stock rear bumper.
Next step is to build a lighter sunroof panel and add lexan rear windows.
Still street legal though, just not street comfortable _________________ Stefan

Be interesting to know the individual weights of the steel Vs ally arms, including the different stub axles and drive shafts required. Basically so we know the TOTAL weight difference between a steel arm 5 lug disc set up and an ally one. Don`t believe there would be much overall difference really.
Has anyone got any figures or some parts and bathroom scales to contribute to this thread? |

Remember dont ever let them see you sweat..
Sound deadening and light weight seats really knock off a chunk of weight.. Getting a rear lexan hatch would would be the tits. for weight savings. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

If the 944 caliper and rotor weight 15,4kg I come to the conclusion that the alu traling arm is 5,5kg. (46 lbs=20,9kg) _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

I have some parts like starter etc weigthed, can take a look at the list I have in the garage. Most recent is the flywheel on the s2 engine, according to the scales its about 5kg, 11lbs. Is there any lighter OEM flywheel ? But the pressure plate isnt as light .
cookie cutter 7x15 wheel is 6.9kg, 15.2lbs. 16kg (if i remeber correct)including toyo r888 205/50 15. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

the ALU trailing arms are MUCH lighter than the 5x130 steel trailing arms. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

The all-alu pressure plate is 3,1kg incl throwout bearing compared with stock at 6,3kg. Remember that this is weight distributed at least 100mm from the center, a major improvement since the stored energy is weight*radius^2!
Iīve got a billet S2 flywheel and it is 5,5kg and I canīt figure out why. The exact same dimensions and it has been machined to be lighter with holes. I was advised not to take of more material. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

That is what everybody is telling, but how much?
I am guessing that a rear disc is 6kg, the caliper 5 kg and the hub 4kg, a total of approx 15kg. Add the alu arm of 5,5kg and you got 21kg.
The steel arm-drum combo doesnīt have the heavy disc and caliper saving 11kg. No idea what the drum weight, guessing 5kg. Add the hub at 4kg. That would mean that the steel arm is rather heavy at 10kg if the total is 19kg.
Does it make sense? Twice as heavy - twice as strong? _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen
