I have a '77.0 924 and want to take out the injectors, but can't. From what I've read you should be able to pull them out, but that doesn't work with me. Does anyone have any advice about how to get them out?

Thank you,

~Frank

Have you got the little L-shaped CIS injector puller? If not, I'd say find one. It makes this an easy job. It's just a bracket that slips under the injector, with a slot in it for your long-handled screwdriver - just insert the driver and lever up against the cam cover.

That's what it looks like. Maybe you could make one. I think I got mine from PelicanParts but I can't remember.

Lots of people just use a claw hammer with good results.

I use a medium sized pry bar.

Hey, claw hammers work well, just be sure to pry at the underside of the bolt head, and try to avoid the fuel lines themselves.

Don't pull them out unless you already have replacement o-rings (the green viton seals are the best), and injector inserts (if yours are still the originals and not the upgraded orange plastic ones).

Use the injector removal tool, and wear eye protection. The old rubber seals become as hard as rocks, and often shatter like glass throwing shrapnel (sharp pieces at that) all over the place when the injectors come loose.

When you get the injectors out, if the o-rings have not already broken, you will have to cut them off. Use a pair of wire cutters to nip them half way or less (don't nick the injector), and they will shatter apart.

Lots of good advice here.

Here's my technique:

Grab the hex head on the injector with a pair of vice grips so they're grabbing the injector nose down and the handles are pointing straight up in the air. Slip a pry bar into the gap in the jaws of the vice grips, jam the tip of the pry bar against the valve cover and pull up. The injector will pop right out damage free.
