I've been looking for a Turbo motor, I have one currently installed that is suffering from detonation. I have been trying to make it work now for the past four years, almost five, and I'm tired of dealing with this BS!!!! I've already destroyed one head, go back and look at some of my posts, a lot of people have been very helpful!! Anyway, just for the heck of it I went to Auto Atlanta to see if they have anything out there? Guess what, they did! For a complete motor (931) Part# G93110020200 asking price: $12,267.68 Holy shit guys, the motor is worth more than the car!!!
Does anyone know where I can get a set of stock 931 pistons, 40 thousandths over? That what this motor I have has been bored to, or a 924 block, something I can work with.

Dan (ideola) would be your best bet for sourcing a set. I would also mention that you can get a set of Diamond pistons made for around $250. They can be made to a different CR too. _________________ 1980 924 NA

Diamond pistons are ~$650 a set without coatings. Add $150 for coatings. They can be made to any configuration you desire. If that sounds expensive, factor in the cost of new rings ($350 from Porsche), wrist pins, and retainers. In my opinion, these are a better alternative than trying to find used oversized pistons simply because the ring sets alone for oversized pistons will cost you more than a brand new complete set of pistons with rings, pins, and retainers. Plus, with custom pistons, you can do whatever you want with the CR. Not sure where the $250 number came from... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thast why you go for the wider ring lands when you order your diamond pistons...you get better sealing and the cost of rings is cut in half. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Not sure where I got that number. I thought I remembered seeing a place offering custom forged pistons for around 250-350. I have the bookmark on my old comp, will have to dig it up. _________________ 1980 924 NA

Not exactly. The Diamond pistons come with rings especially made for them, so no need to worry about matching ring sizes & lands and all that stuff. They're a complete package. What you're thinking of, Joe, is taking OEM 931 pistons and having them machined to accept the standard NA ring sets. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

dan, the actual cylinders in the block i am using appear to have been hit pretty bad by the blown head gasket so there was some rust. if i need to bore it out to get rid of that, do the diamond pistons have the ability to get rings to fit the size? _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Absolutely, their rings are from Total Seal, and I'm also in the process of getting set up to sell Total Seal direct, so I'm hoping to have a lower cost alternative for OEM pistons within a month or so.
{EDIT}
I should have clarified, the Total Seal rings can be gotten in .25mm increments (86.5, 86.75, 87, 87.25, 87.5, 87.75, 8 _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Total seal rings are the stuff. I had a set I put in yrs ago there kind of tricky cause each ring are a 3 piece. I loved mine. RPITA though. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
