|
|
Since I have to do a rebuild on the 941 over the winter, I'm starting to put together my shopping list. I'm certain the motor mounts will need to be addressed. After recovering from the sticker shock of replacing OEM units ($270.75, not including shipping!!!!!), I decided it was worthwhile to look at the Vibratechnics.
Bottom line, I'm ordering a set for myself. I'm not in a hurry, but will probably want to order by early December time frame. If anybody else wants to go in with me to help share the shipping costs, here's what we can do pricing-wise:
Me all by my lonesome: $271.60 shipped (0% savings)
Me + 1 participant: $254.44 shipped (6% savings)
Me + 2 participants: $250.56 shipped (8% savings)
Me + 3 participants: $240.40 shipped (11% savings)
Me + 4 participants: $236.91 shipped (13% savings)
Me + 5 participants: $230.59 shipped (15% savings)
Me + 6 participants: $229.85 shipped (15% savings)
Me + 7 participants: $225.19 shipped (17% savings)
Me + 8 participants: $222.76 shipped (18% savings)
Me + 9 participants: $216.26 shipped (20% savings)
This is for the "street version" of their mount (POR174M). If you'd like the "track version", add $12.50.
More details are available here:
http://www.vibra-technics.co.uk/parts/part-results.asp?mid=19
(Note that the pricing on their site is for ONE mount, not including shipping).
These prices are based upon current exchange rate. If there's a dramatic fluctuation between now and Dec, we can address it as necessary when the time comes. Bottom line, I'm not going to take a bath based on an exchange rate shift, nor will I profit it on one.
What I think I will do is invoice initially to cover the cost of the part itself, and then issue a secondary invoice to cover the balance based on total number of participants sharing in the shipping cost. If you're not in the U.S., please contact me via PM or offline to sort out shipping arrangements. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made

Just installed a set of these (street version) on Shaggy. I'd say that they transmit a tiny bit more vibration than stock, but worth the price savings.
One comment tho. . .those mounting studs are WAY TOO LONG. Perhaps they could address this in a new run of these parts?
Overall, though, as I said. . .RECOMMENDED. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I wouldnt go for the track ones even on a track car, to much vibrations. The street ones are ok vibrations wise. Vibrates some at low revs but not at all like the race ones. I can really recommend them for anyone who plans using their car in turns _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The price is for a set? Left + right? Are they identical?
Maybe a stupid question, but I am looking for a harder(rock-solid) right-side and maybe running a "softer" left side. _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen

Just realized that my post didn't really belong here. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes, but I'll start a new thread for the stateside development work. _________________ Stefan

Price is for a set, but they are sold individually, so you could get one street and one track if you wanted. The track versions are $6.50 more than the street version. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

On an NA, if you have an engine lift, it's not really that hard. There are 3 bolts per side: one on bottom and two up top. The bottom ones are dead easy to get to with a rattle gun, and the top two, while not easy, are certainly doable with a little rearranging. You just have to have the engine supported. I have a foldable workshop crane now (happy birthday to me!) that you could borrow if you need to.

Can be done with a floor jack. BTDT in a couple of hours. Just undo the bolts on the old ones and drop the engine onto the cross member and start wiggling.
The bolts on the top of the V-T mounts are shorter than the standard ones so fit much more easily.
Track mounts are VERY hard I had them fitted for a couple of weeks (Bought s/h) in car vibration was horrendous.... had to get rid of them, someone on here had them...? _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...
