Here are some pics of the mount I broke at MAM. Found out that welding it might not be an option. The frame rails are paper thin, versus the sturdy almost 1/8th inch mount itself. My welding, using a mig welder, resulted in a couple of holes. I've already decided to bolt it by drilling holes vertically and horizontally, but thought some might be interested in the carnage!

Now would be the perfect time to upgrade that front sway bar to the late style mounting. Drill out the spot welds of the bracket on the other side, remove it, and convert over so you can use the 968 M030 stuff.
I'm just sayin', if yer gonna spend time on it, give yourself some headroom! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

How does a Weltmeister 28mm adjustable sway bar stack up? Oh, and I guess the air freshener on the floor can be used as a size comparison!

Is this an example of the sway bar mount?

Yes, the gold-colored zinc pieces are aftermarket reinforcements. The black piece is the one I'm talking about. On the 924S and 944, there are two captive nuts in the frame rail that that piece bolts to, so you'd have to figure out some method of fastening that piece to the frame rail. I've got a couple of ideas floating around in my head, but haven't worked out the details yet... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Well, due to laziness, getting over the flu, dealing with a continuing nasty cold, fixed the mount as mentioned. Used 3/8x7 inch bolts, two of them up thru the bottom, and two 5/16x4.5 inch bolts thru the fender well. Bought a 12" long drill for the drilling. 20 bucks for all, and put bolts thru the passenger side mount for good measure as well. Now off to fix intercooler mount. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I've had one of these on my car for a while along with the 968 rear bar. Probably a bit heavier than some other bars but it's great for a fast road set-up. It's very easy to set the handling up to your own driving preference/style, oversteer/understeer etc. _________________ 1979 UK 932 |
