Just curious, anyone else have a Automatic 924?

I can't find any production notes, nor does the vin# decoder identify automatics, so I'm curious how many of these are left.

9 out of 10 personalities agree that getting a free Porsche is a good thing......

The 10th one is still in the corner playing with the keys.........

1st car was a 2.0L auto, and more recently had a 2.5L NA auto...

RC quite possibly has the fastest automatic-equipped 924 in the world.*

*excluding V8 transplants.

Porsche began offering the Automatic as an option in the latter part of 1976.
The transmission code for your 1978 USA model is Type RL. Sorry, I don't have a breakdown of how many were produced with this option.

Took one of 924 AT for a short spin last year. It's quite slower compared to manual, but drivable.
Still want to know the torque capabilities of those automatic transmissions - will it withstand some slightly supercharging?

We need to hear from RC. I've just shipped a number of trans components to him for some upgrades he's planning for the AT in his supercharged '24.

Mandy's mom has Mand's old automatic. Still runs but right now the car needs an accumulator and tranny fill reservoir.

We've tried really hard to break it but, like my 944's tranny, regardless of how much it complains it just won't.

Slow as a wet week, though.

Thank you all,

One thing really got my attention though....as I am an old school modifier....

V8 transplant?.....

Tell me more.....

My last 2 hot rods were a 1972 suburban...14.58 clocked 1/4 mile.

1964 studibaker "business class" (kinda like the Nova II 2 door) which was never clock on the quarter...but did 0 to 80 in 4.8 seconds...

Do to the mileage I'm going to keep in original now (58K original), but I would love to make this a true screamer...someday.....

9 out of 10 personalities agree there is no such thing as to much horsepower.....just not enough driver for the horsepower....

The 10th one is in the corner making airplanes out of Kotex with "wings"......hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Ok Dan, happy to oblige. Must have missed this thread when it was hot.

Oh, I do hope so.
Anyone with a faster 2.0L slushbox please LMK.
Might even open that to 2.5L contenders soon.

Click above.

You obviously changed the ATF more than once in 30 years then and possibly even had a service or 2. Surprises me of the mentality of most AT owners who think that these last forever with the same oil and filter the factory installed. Same with many here and most on RL & Pelican, with their "chuck in a manual" diatribe. Wonder how many clutches and manual boxes they`ve gone through in 30 years.

Supercharging, sure.
What`s the max torque of a 5 pot Audi turbo? Same box.
These get used behind 700 HP V8, mainly in sandrails. Note the 087 box with a slightly beefed up diff. The diff is the weak spot. Um ... same diff in all the Audi manuals as the slushbox.
