I`m trying to establish what the difference in front track width is between the stock 4 lug brake setup and the 5 lug brakes, assuming same wheel offset. Obviously the wheels are not interchangeable, so offset is irrelevent. To rephrase the question, how much difference will there be between the 4 & 5 lug hub/ disc mounting faces?

Spindles and hubs are different, so using the same control arm & strut, what difference (if any) will there be to the wheel mounting face dimension?

I wonder if the offset of a 5 lug rim minus the offset of a 4 lug rim might be the answer?

Afterall, the 931 didn't inherit its 5 lug wheels from any other model (they were designed specifically), it would make sense that they stuck to the original 4 lug track by adding offset to the rims on the 5 lug set-up?

Any idea what the offset was on the ATS spiderweb 4 lugs?

Sorry, pure guesswork on my part I'm afraid Rog.

Reasonable supposition. If correct, the answer is 33 (53-20).

Thanks guys, thats the best assumption that I arrived at too. Numbers used were 55 and 23 but same result, well WTF a mm when it comes to wheel clearance, irrelevant or a few PSI.

Couldn`t find any documentation on this, official or otherwise. Looking at the early 944 hubs, same as 931/932 hubs I trust?, there`s more meat, probably about 30mm of it. Can`t get any accurate figures though till its on a spindle and mounted.

Anyway Rasta, with your 6J16s up front, stock reinforced control arms, ET52 ? how is your clearance between the tyres and the guard lip? Any spacer plates fitted? Did you have any previously with your old springs, before the coil overs?

With the 6s up front, it looks perfect, very little change in track:

The tire was very close to the spring, so close I couldn't hardly get a finger between them. That problem is solved now, though. . .I am considering moving to 7s up front.

Excellent illustration Rasta, thanks for that.

Yeah, doesn`t look like theres much difference at all.

I really screwed up with the ETs on these 8 & 9" D90s I bought. ET of 11 & 15, would look great on a plastic bodied CGT conversion with wider guards. Cant even get the 8"one on the back, sticks out past the guard it sits on but has 2" clearance behind.

Just bought some Boxter 17" twisties, 7"F & 8.5"rear, ET55 & 50, that look more promising re fitment. Have 225s on the stock 4 lug 6J14s ATM that has a finger clearance behind and doesn`t rub the guard. Hope they will take at least 215s OK but much easier to turn up spacers than turn down the whole F`n wheel.

Guy I got them from had them on a 928, and said they fit early 911s. They`re not genuine but a Japanese copy. More here with pix:
