Take a look at Jay's page: http//:home.san.rr.com/myzone/924.htm

This has all the mods I've ever heard of to do on a budget, although
Euro pistons and the big valve head is pushing the price envelope...

Other than adding Weber's, which I know is a PITA to keep tuned
year round, or adding turbo / stroker / or Audi 5-cylinder, this is about it.

You can always improve the suspension enough to take about any
car on the road if you wanted to - but only on twisty roads!

Good Luck,
-nick

This may sound obvious, but making sure that your ignition timing is correctly set will add a lot more hp than most other modifications at basically no cost. The timing set on my '82 was incorrect and when it was adjusted the car felt like it had gained at least 10-20 hp.

In regards to making it go faster their are a few more options which i have
chosen to use on my 1980 924. I purchased it from a guy in Austin, TX
for $300.00 not running so it made a perfect project car. This will be my 4th one.
We bought a 1977 924 for parts for an additional $200.00. ( Don't think these guys
realized what they had) We took the hood and custom fabricated air intakes to ram
the air box full of air. ( sort of a cold air induction) The cooler you can keep an
engine the more hp it can provide. Another reason they use oil coolers aka inter
coolers. also a jacobs ignition system is available from performance products which
puts out several 1000 more volts than a stock coil and ignition. I am also
considering an oil cooler and possibly a larger throttle body. Not too sure if the
throttle body idea is feasable yet. If you don't have a spare hood you can always
pick up a good used on for around $100.00 or so. One inlet is used for the air box
while the passenger side is used to help keep the altenator cooler since we all
know about the imfamous plastic piece used by porsche gets brittle and breaks.
Running air from the inlets we used flexible metal tubing that's used on carborated
cars to recircculate warm air from the exgaust back to the carb. I haven't finished
much of the car but as I do and add more things that are easy on the pocket book
i'll be sure to let you know.
