Hi guys

I've got a 2 litre 924 and am wondering if anyone out there has wrapped their exhaust manifold with heat wrapping and did it make any difference?

I've read in some places that wrapping is not the best idea and that spray coating is much better. Anyone had much experience with that?
Cheers,

Owen

If you like itchy fingers and pain - fill your boots.

I heat wrapped the Elise manifold, all it did was soak up water so it steamed loads as it warmed up, then fall off in big chunks.

I painted the heat wrap in high temp paint which held it togetehr for a good few years but it still fell off in lumps.

If you do paint the wrap be prepared for FECKING MASSICVE CLOUDS OF WHITE SMOKE!

No one warned me and I never considered it, I finished fitting the manifold, which had been wrapped off the car, and went for a test drive - had to stop every 5 mins to let the smoke clear and kept having people offering to call out the fire brigade...

What did it achive - nothing other than itchy fingers as far as I could tell

Coating is much better than wrapping. I know on Vaughan's ITB car, the headers he wrapped failed much sooner than they should have. He now runs them unwrapped. If you can get them coated, it's the way to go.

Yeah, not a big fan of wrapping. If you do do it... need to wet the tape to get it to conform easily. Needs to be held in place with hose clamps and safety wire. We started the engine and let everything warm up thoroughly in-place, with the hood open; many many nasty fumes to burn off before all was calm again.

Internet extortion, I think you have hit on a new way of making money!

There is a certain age group in the UK who will have a tune stuck in their heads if I post this image:

Pay me money or I'll post a youtube link
